2015 BMW X5 xdrive35i Front Brakes
I'm replacing my front pads and rotors on my 2015 BMW X5 xdrive35i. I am trying to get the caliper bracket off so that I can do the pads and replace the rotors and the bracket bolts wont break free. They're E18 Torx which I have that socket and the bolt is starting to round. I was using a 15" Breaker bar and still not getting it to budge. I'm going to try some penetrating fluid but I'm not very optimistic it will work. Any suggestions? I'm concerned about shearing the head off. Thanks!

Try some pb. But those aren’t torqued all that tight so you shouldn’t be having a hard time. Especially on a 15.

They have thread locker on them. It takes some power to take them off.
Don't use cheap sockets. Get some Snap On, Facom, Mac, or Matco ones. Lisle ones round don't fit tight enough in my experience.

If pb blaster doesn't work, try this concoction of autotrans fluid (dex III) and acetone. I used that on a super rusted in tie rod on a NYC subaru legacy... It worked like a charm.
Here is a link of the concoction on youtube. |
