Paint dings on front door corners anyone?
Hello, I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issue in regards to getting paint chips on the bottom corner of the front doors near the wheel wells? See attached pictures. Not too impressed that after 2500 miles I am seeing it
My wife's M4 BMW installed a clear bra in problem areas as part of the delivery. Should they not have done so on the F85? I saw xcfloyd had installed some mud flaps. I ordered some in the meantime. I hope it looks good with Donnington Gray. |

That seems like a tough place to get rock chips, if I am looking at the bottom corner. Could that have hit a curb upon opening? Do you valet by chance?

The X5 has pretty thin paint. It chips very easily.

Nope. I am the only one driving it. I have it on both front doors. Perhaps the 21" wheels have something to do with it? Wider and without mud guards just flings everything?

Looks like road rash to me. The lower sections of the doors and the rockers are susceptible to road rash.

My previous E70 X5 had the M Sport package (no mud guards). I had the same issues due to the massive tires. BMW repainted the rockers at their expense, then I had it wrapped with PPF.

Did you get your current F85 wrapped? or do you have the 20" tires and it does not "kick" up as much debris.

Msports and M's with no mud flaps have this issue especially when you drive more on loose graveled roads.

I covered a very large part of my F85 covered with XPel Ultimate the day I took delivery of the vehicle. I covered the whole hood, A pillars, area of roof in front of pano-roof, front fenders and wheel arches, full front bumper, rocker panels, rear wheel arches, bottom 10" of the doors, and 11" of the rear fender/bumper where the rear wheels would kick things up onto the vehicle. I knew going into purchasing this vehicle that the rocker panels, bottoms of the doors, and wheel arches are prone to "sandblasting" from the front tires. The XPel Ultimate has held up incredibly well.

Ugh!... This is the first time owning a M. We just so happened got 2 in the same month. The previous vehicles have been "standard" BMWs in the past and come to think of it all had mud guards. I wish the dealer had said something about it, now the rockers and the lower corner of my door is now speckled after 2500 miles. I did order the f15 mudflaps which will be arriving tomorrow.... now I have a speckled car
Not sure if BMW can address at this point? My wife's M4 does not seem to have the same issue. It did come wrapped in the rear in front of the rear wheel area. |

Are the mudflaps mentioned OEM parts? Anyone have a pic of theirs installed?

http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...light=mud+flap I had asked cxfloyd if he can send a side view of the vehicle. And no is not part of the OEM list for parts. You just have to order it from the F15 parts lists for the 20/21" Wheels. |

I'd put XPel Ultimate on the car, before I'd strap on some mudflaps. The XPel does an amazing job of protecting the paint, is easily replaceable if it is damaged by the "sandblasting", and doesn't mar the visual appeal of the vehicle. That's just my two cents.

And here is the dilemma - on a lease, what to cover if at all?? I was def going to do front bumper and headlights and the front side of the rear wheel arch.

When I turned in my 640, it had 21K miles but not as many paint chips as the X5 does at the moment. Maybe they use a thicker clear coat in Germany?

M4/M3's that are built in Germany have the quarter panels wrapped to protect that area from road debris hitting it. The orange area in this illustration is the problem area. This issue has been discussed since the E70 X5's Lot of things are happening here, the front wheels spin kicking up road debris or loose dirt/rocks into the rear quarter and on the rear fender flares. Here are some discussion from previous threads http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ght=paint+chip

With my E70 X5-M Sport, I complained to the dealer, they told BMW NA, and BMW NA agreed to repaint my rockers at no charge to me. I then had the rockers and rear wheel arches covered in PPF. If I were you, I would complain to your dealer, and see what they do.
