The greasing works if the problem is a tailgate rattle, not squeaks from what I know. It has worked for me to tame rattles in the back. Squeak might be suspension related.

For what it's worth, I think I have a resolution.
Yesterday, while driving alone, the squeaking was giving me facial tics, and I really thought the squeak was coming from *inside* the drivers side rear passenger door. So I reached back with my left hand, pounded on the door just beneath the window, and what do you know, squeaking stopped immediately. I'm not sure exactly what's causing it, but if it comes back, I'm sure another swift whack will stop it again for a while. I can live with that. |

Thanks to all who had suggestions as my X5 is now free of squeaking .
I did the lube as recommended and today I sprayed dry lube all around the rear gate where different materials meet. Plastic and painted body, springs and perches, plastIc on plastic and inside each latch cavity. Took it for a drive and it was real quiet. I’ll repeat as necessary. Thanks ! |
