How much of a premium for low miles?

Hi, I’m interested in purchasing an F15 X5 50i. I’ve found several I’m interested in based on options, mileage, and condition. I’d of course love to have a low mileage vehicle like most would, but I’m wondering…let’s say you found 2 X5 50i’s, same year, same color combo, almost exactly the same options. One has 93k miles and they’re asking $24k, lowered over the past month from $25k. The other has 44k miles and they’re asking $32k, lowered over the last three months from $36k.

Which would you go for? How much would you offer for each? Thanks in advance!

I bought my f15 x5 s35i for $27k out the door with 54k miles.
so $32k for a 50i with 44k miles seems ok, assuming it has a bunch of good options on it.

An extra $10k for less than half of the miles - especially on an N63 - is worth it in my book. Still, I'd like it to be pretty highly optioned if at all possible for that price and preferably 2017+ (for iDrive 5 and CarPlay primarily).

I went out of my way to find a low mileage one when I picked mine up, and paid somewhat of a premium for it, but I feel that was totally worth it. 92k is getting up there for an N63, especially if you don't really know the maintenance history on it.

Thanks for your responses!

Both of them are pretty well optioned out…at least they have everything I would want. Both have the Mocha Interior Design design package, the only difference is the higher mileage one has the B&O sound system, the low mileage one has the HK system.

The high mileage X5 lived in FL its whole life and oil was changed every 7.5-10k miles. The low mileage X5 started in FL, then saw a year or so in Utah, then possibly NY but I’m not 100% sure. It’s oil was changed every 10k for the first 20k miles, but there are no more service records until Carfax shows the oil changed at 44k miles. According to the Carfax it has had a couple more issues…drive belt tensioner replaced, battery replaced, AC system recharged, and the driveability checked a few separate times.

I have the B&O system in my X5 and I'm not overly impressed with it. Had the HK system in a F10 previously and they sound the same to me. I'd honestly prefer the HK as you can upgrade to Bavsound systems, which seem to get good reviews. Once you have the B&O, you're stuck with it.

The one with 44K. But NYC can be lots of city driving so fewer but more stressful miles. Personally, I would never get an N63 with over 70-80K miles max.

Turned out from being in Utah and NY that the 44k mile one was pretty corroded underneath. Totally lost my interest. The 93k mile one checked out quite well so I ended up deciding to get it. We will see how it works out lol

Interesting…I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about it. Guess we will see what I think!

To my ears, the B&O is significantly better the HK, stock for stock. The only real downside, as pointed out above, is that it cannot be easily upgraded.

Corrosion from New York maybe, but not Utah. Cars in the arid West you can generally thread suspension nuts off with your fingers once loosened.

Do they not salt the roads in Utah? Bonus if no. But it def spent some time in NY during the winter.

Anyway I head down to FL to pick mine up on Friday. 👍

I would think replacing a speaker is replacing a speaker…I’m just guessing Bavsound doesn’t have a speaker and amp set that would be considered an upgrade from the B&O speakers. But I’d think other companies have speakers for them. 🤷

My car has spent half its life in Utah and half in Colorado. People who don't live here think it snows much more than it actually does, and I've never seen true salt used on roads here. They use some sort of liquid stuff sometimes. But as a general matter, cars here do not even get that white corrosion on aluminum parts. Other than just dirt, stuff pretty much looks new under there.

Good to know for future car buying…I had been avoiding Midwest cars due to my assumptions!

Depends on what you call the midwest. I'd definitely check cars from places like Ohio, but the mountain west is arid, so there really is not rust.

Oh, yeah, OH is def a no go for me…and mid west I think of as further west…though my geography leaves a lot to be desired lol
