Heat problem?
I've noticed recently that after a driving a short while (about 30 to 45 minutes) and I shut down the car, I hear the fans cooling (at high speed) for a couple of minutes. When standing next to the car (both sides) a lot of heat is coming from underneath the car. Outside temperature is about 12 to 15 degrees Celcius. I drove a bit of highway and that last 15 minutes some residential area between 40 and 80 km/ph. Kids in the car so no funny stuff. Any idea's? I didn't have this in summer times. Car temp is steady at 90 degrees celcius.

I have the 50i and it's completely normal (for the gasoline engine, at least). The engine runs hot, the fans stay on after shut down, and batteries require replacing at each oil chance.

I have noticed this on my M50d that most days after car shut down the radiator fans stay on for 5+ minutes. I'm assuming this is normal as with my past vehicles this only came on in very hot days.

I think this is normal, even my X5 40e did this for the batteries. My 2016 G550 with the 4.0L twin turbo V8...my god, the fans would run for like 10 mins even after a relatively short drive.
Engines are running hotter and hotter these days, to try and keep power up and size down. IMO, gone are the days when German engines would last hundreds of thousands of miles! |

I've never changed the batteries (MY2014).
That's the thing, on hot days I can imagine it needs extra cooling. But it wasn't a hot day. And even in summer times on hot days, it didn't keep the fans running. Is there any way to determine what part of the car is hot? Are there sensors I can read out with Enet cable? It's not hot at front (engine) but more from underneath (center). That would be the drivetrain? |
