Do what you want. Surprised people are still posting on this one. I?ll loved my x3 but the x5 seemed to me lesser quality with the issues I?ve described in multiple threads. My perceptions but facts are facts. Obviously others have similar opinions.

Look, you had a bad experience with your X5. That's unfortunate. You were smart and got rid of it and moved on. Good for you.

Apparently you got a bad one. Do others share your experience? Yes, but most of the responses from X5 owners on this thread are NOT having similar problems. The X5 sells like hotcakes and is very highly rated by most media and owners alike. You had a different experience. You used the term snarky for some of the responses to your OP. These people are not being snarky at all. They are just saying they are not experiencing what you experienced.

I'm in the market for an X5 or the brand new X3 so I've been reading reviews, test driving X5s, and talking with friends that own them. Before I pull the trigger, I will pay attention to wind noise and make sure the AC performs correctly. Thank you for bringing those points up.

Enjoy you Audi.

When driving a VAG TDI product you must've noticed that it does not sound like a typical diesel and have clattering and chattering. When I test drove the 35d it sounded like a farm tractor compared to the Q7. It was worse than what I had in my V10 Touareg which was a much larger motor and was quieter and smoother than the 35D. I found out that the "cheat" device installed was initially designed to quiet the motors which it achieved but the downside was emissions increased because of "pilot mode" which is when the defeat device would initiate and skew emissions testing. I wound up in a 50i instead then went on to an X5M because I could not tolerate the engine noise. That being said the BMW product does the job very well and I do not have any gripe with the vehicle outside of the engine noise.

The X5 is not the flagship model for BMW nor is the trim you picked the highest priced example of that model but in any event perhaps you may post the VIN on here so others in the future can avoid that specific X5 and not have the same experience.

Man...I love, love the sound of the X5 35d! I wish it was more "diesely". I think it sounds so much more robust than VAG TDI. I buy diesels, because I love them. 2nd 35d X5 and have had 3 MBZ diesels.

Did dealer drive and hear the wind noise? I had a lot of wind noise (whistle) on my E70 but not nearly much on F15.

Good luck with whatever you end up doing, I am looking at Q7 myself, and it doesn't drive anywhere near a BMW, so while it might have stronger A/C, the drive is not going to be as direct/fun as BMW, which I realized after test driving several other competitors- but no matter which way you go, nothing will satisfy you %100 if you are really picky. When I read "done with X5" I thought you've been to dealer many times and they can't fix major issues you might be having.
The AC is pretty bad in the F15.

- There are many where the evap leaks, mine just got replaced.
- The rear AC robs the airflow completely, agreed.
- It is also quite noisy and the vents tend to crackle.

- By far the worst issue is the completely worthless Auto.

Not sure where it measures the temperature, perhaps it gets it from national weather service, surely not inside my car. It can adjust the fan speed and temperature at all to keep it comfortable. In Texas my routine is run Max AC for 5-7mins, then set it to 65-66 and set the fan speed to 2/3 of the max, that tends to keep it somewhat comfortable.

That was a post from August of last year. Bought a 6-series instead to replace a 1-series.

I hate the AC. I have to disable the overpriced rear climate in iDrive just to drive acceptable airflow.

Mocha Package with the leather dash. Don't know about anyone else but there's a smell from this that gives me a headache on hot days. Also, this interior just always feels hotter than other cars to me. It was annoying.

CarPlay hardly ever worked. Very clunky implementation and not as fluid as a ford rental I had last year! Also static on about 40% of my calls.

Mileage was not as good as advertised ~23.5 with eco pro and careful driving. Expected better.

Wind noise was higher than I expected for a 65k+ car. Dealer wouldn't troubleshoot it as it was within acceptable standards.

Few more nit picky things but I expected a lot more from a flagship model with BMW.
X5 .... flagship...?

No AUDI or any other comparable size and power SAV handles as well as X5. Except X5M, Cayenne and Urus. (Well X6M too lol). G05 judging by the rumors has even tighter steering (yay!) and finally stock lowering option with full adaptive suspension on all 4 corners). I haven't checked yet if stabilizer bars will be larger etc, but as of right now it seems that G05 X5 (and upcoming X5M) will continue to lead competition as a ultimate driving machine (except above mentioned exceptions).

Who cares about model 3 lol? Not me.

So then I have to shut off the system completely and wait a minute then turn back on. Seems like it doesn't want the compressor off. And if you have the 4 zone climate, you have to take extra step and go into I-drive and turn off rear climate if you don't want the compressor on.
I noticed this very thing the other day. I always like to turn of the AC about 30 secs before pulling into the garage so I don't drip water and to clear the lines. Kind of annoying when you inactivate the compressor yet it's still running.

Well, I agree the A/C could be colder. So could the A/C seats (my past M35 was much better). I also did not know that you could disable the rear climate control (which boosts the front). With that said, I disabled it yesterday and now the front is blowing as cold as my W212 E Class! Also good luck on future purchases, as many have said the X5 is not for everyone...

My theory on the X5 AC is that it does a fine job cooling, but it doesn't do as good a job at dehumidifying. I'm in TN, and in August when it's 100* out with 70-80% humidity, it takes a long time to cool the cabin, and it's never really ideal (ie, it still feels humid in the car). I've gotten accustomed to using my seat ventilation (which also sucks... don't get me started) to supplement the AC just to keep my arse from sweating.

Mb you need a smaller vehicle have you tried x1? That 4 cyl seems realtv quick and has some kicking inside. Compared to all other brands in the same class x5 is one of the best performing vehicles nowdays. Im getting 17-18 in the city and around 20 on highway depends on gas as well. Im not sure why u so unhappy but its a great suv. What package you got ? In my car leather smells like genuine bmw interior if you keep it clean and food free the new smell smell will remain for years. I rly have a feeling that someone shit in ur car

I am glad I found this post. I live in Florida and just bought a 2015 X5d Sport. So far I love everything EXCEPT THE AC. Turning off the rear AC is necessary for me - I can live with hassle, its easy enough to do but for a while I thought it just bad with no easy fix. Thanksto this post, I have the answer. BTW with the diesel, love the gas mileage!! So far we have put 289 miles on it and still have a range of 313 miles!. Plus in Florida, diesel is 15 - 20 cents cheaper than premium.

I tinted my 2 front windows, sunroof, and windshield with ceramic tint before the summer arrived and I have no complaints in 110 degree sun with the rear climate running.

I think tinting the windshield helps tremendously. Lot of heat radiates through the glass it seems.

I'll take the 16mpg and the added maintenance of turning off the rear a/c any day, small price to pay for a fast and fun vehicle
