Distance of left rear BSM warning
Did a search, but maybe did not use the best keywords.
I like the yellow triangle that faithfully provides BSM (or detection) when changing lanes. My question is at what distance does the triangle finally go off? I just finished 3K miles of solo driving. Many interstate were clogged in the left lane especially sections full of semi-trucks. Unfortunately, that means some passing from the right lane to the left to get in front of the pack. When I go right to left, I can clearly see the front of the vehicle in my mirror and from turning my head see that I am clear to pass (right to left). However, more than once the yellow triangle was still on. Is there a setting - short of coding - that was adjust the distance for the rear sensor? If not, it would be helpful to know the range of this sensor.

The blind spot detection and lane departure warning are separate things.
For blind spot detection, the system also predict if a vehicle might end up in your future lane, based on your and others speed. |

You are quite right so I changed the title but the search remains open for an answer to the query nonetheless.

After 3000 miles of driving you should be accustomed to how much space you need to squeeze and with that screamin' V8 it should be no problem getting up to speed
I ignore the triangle half the time other than it serves as a reminder.

I would be more comfortable knowing the distance of the left rear sensor to make certain that I am rightly judging those objects in the mirror that are "closer than they appear".

I kid
I think you're suppose to leave what five car lengths so that's at least two seconds.

I did some monitoring of this one on my way into work this morning. It appears that the BSM indicator triggers when a car is approximately 1.5 to 2 car lengths off the rear bumper to either side. It turns off when the car is roughly parallel with your vehicle (and thus easily visible to the side).
In all instances where the light was on I was of the opinion that a lane change would probably be considered a fairly aggressive maneuver unless you put your foot into it in order to accelerate ahead of the car behind before making the lane change. For lane changes at constant speed, I tend to use the rear view mirror as the guide. If I can see the car behind me in the rearview I know that there's ample room to move over. |

I have BSM in my 17 and is it just me or if I come up quick on a car, either on their left or right, and swiftly pass them, the BSM light never comes on.
On almost every other car out there, I see that they never fail to turn on. Plus I hate the fact it works only above 30-40mph. |
