My 35d is decent at best here in the Hot Hot Dallas summer. I play a lot of golf and leaving the car in the parking lot is a recipe for disaster so before i get in to head home I always roll down the windows turn the car on and hit the max AC button. Usually helps some while I am taking off the shoes, etc...

I will say I saw the original thread a while back and was a little skeptical of the AC but its really not as bad as I thought. Turning off the rear AC is a good idea and I have matched tint in the front so that has helped as well. Everyday I leave from work this summer its around 100 out for the most part and I hit that max AC button pretty regularly lately. About 5 min into my drive I crank it down some so I can actually hear the radio.

If you download "BMW Remote" app you can start the fan ventilation in your vehicle before getting in it. You can also setup a time for it to activate at a certain time.

That's helped me somewhat down in Houston.

I'm very curious to play with the app. I live in Houston and my current vehicle has remote start with actual cooled seats that turn on. With the thought of losing those two options, I am very curious to see if turning on the ventilation from the app will actually help.

I honestly dont think its the seats that make it hot, its just the ambient temperature and cooling the car. I am sure ventilated seats would help some but getting that air blown out of the system and getting the cool air going is paramount. Any Texan will tell you when you get into the car in the summer if its been sitting everything is hot...steering wheel, wood trim on your elbow, ridiculous, and while I am used to it blowing the air out is probably the best policy so may try the app as well.

Just wanted to chime in here and say that I am also very disappointed with the A/C performance on our '16 X5 (400 miles). Even on Max A/C and the vent 'wheels' on "full blue" it doesn't feel like it's working. In my previous car (435) and M3, the Max A/C is very, very powerful and feels cold immediately. To me, it feels like the air is not blowing out nearly as fast/hard as it should. Super frustrating and really my only complaint about the new car.

It's a 102F in Texas right now and I just wrapped up a 3 hour drive. My wife kept turning the A/C temperature up because she was too cold. This thing ICES down the cabin, and I have a black car...

If no one is occupying the rear seats try to carry out the below steps and your system should work just fine as it did with my vehicle, not to mention the average temperature here in summer season is 122 F

-Make sure the sync button on the AC panel is off.
-Go to idrive menu under options, climate and untick the rear AC option.
-adjust the AC to auto mode with minimum temperature which is 16 C or 60 F
I hope the above steps will somehow improve the cooling process of the cabin, as a matter of fact I'm very satisfied with my vehicle AC, it's freezing cold.

i agree with the huge windshield allowing too much heat through, its as if they thinned out the glass n now the insulation is worst. i do find my AC is adequate tho, and i just checked my vin and shows the code 823 HOT CLIMATE VERSION.

for people who are complaining their ac sucks, use this site to check the last 7 digits of ur vin, under standard equipment it should say HOT CLIMATE VERSION or something else?

Just picked up a 2016 X1 and noticed the exact issue, AC fan volume is very weak. Glad to know it's not just me

I apologize, as I don't feel like reading this entire thread, but is there a current TSB and/or fix out for the a/c? I have my 20k service next week and have a running list of items to check out?

In addition to the weak cooling, does anyone else have a relatively noisy (almost like a loose belt whine--very slight noise within the interior of the car) when the a/c is on auto/low-moderate fan speed and you are stopped at a light or in bumper-to-bumper traffic for example?

Here in sunny Georgia, its been 90F+ since June and should continue so through Sept. Windshield sunshade makes a big difference. Have no complaints with rapid cooling of the F15 AC - kick it into lowest temp and its just fine in several minutes.

I love this car.

if your drives are continually from covered spaces (garages and trees), you may not be bothered.

driving down the highway with the ac on after your car was in the garage all morning is cake for the x5. but taking the temps down after any amount of time parked in the sun is another story.

this is probably the key.

i actually had very dark tint all around the X5 including 50% or 75% on the front windshield and it was unbearable if it sat in the sun for even a few minutes.

i think one of those Windshield shades would have worked great. i feel like that huge glass panel would just shatter if it was tinted with one of those shades?

Yes it is crappy. It's either brain freezing cold or mediocre at best.
I wish fan speed variables actually work as intended.

I felt the same with my X5 and pretty much all BMW vehicles I've owned! However I noticed the AC would work a little better with MAX AC on

this usually happens when the car battery is weak, the car is programmed to reserve battery capacity to essential functions. most noticeable during the first drive in the morning after parking overnight. in both my e92 and f15, i have the dash cam hooked up to run continuously and parking it overnight will drain the battery close to 12V which the car will deem as a weak battery. in the morning when i have the fan setting set to max, it is really only blowing at a fan speed of 3-4 stops from max. as u drive and charge the battery enough, the car will start blowing max air again.

The remote ventilation is worthless in my opinion. It just blows warm air.

Been over 100 here the last few days and my 2016 X5M's ac is perfectly fine. I usually have it on full blast for the first 5-10mins then back down to 2-3 bars for the rest of the drive. No complaints here.

Are you guys making sure the up and down red/blue dials next to the vent is set to all the way blue for max cool? All vents open and sunroof cover closed? I also have my front side windows tinted so that also helps.

Alan

Mine is the same as Alan's, my AC is working perfectly fine and will freeze you even in 90 degree weather, plenty of air moving out the vents, ice cold.

Addendum to my previous post. In hot summer climate (i.e. Georgia), the black dashboard is a very efficient heatsink - absorbing and holding heat for the entire drive with the sun beating on it. That heat most def stays in the cabin and rises to the top. So 68F AC setting on a cloudy 90F day will serve just fine. But on sunny days, I have to lower the AC temp to low 60s to combat the constant dashboard heat and achieve the same ambient cabin temp.
