I bought the bbk originally without those floating rotors and then got the the floating rotors later from Ben.

^^ why all these people posting pics of their own vehicles in atomic80's mod thread?

atomic80 - really well done, from the original build spec to your choice of mods. I'm local to you...if this thing ever hits the market I hope I don't miss the posting!

Is your vehicle lowered? In the photo below it looks slightly lower than others I have seen.

Atomic, do you have a part number for the 599M wheel set?

I searched and came up with part number 36112349591

If that’s the case can you select which tire brand you want? Or are you stuck with the runflats?

I have no idea! LOL! I guess they're copying my mods. And thanks man...I just added a box on top of mine.

This is what I have:

https://getbmwparts.com/partlocator/...catalogid=4462

And I'm still on the Pirelli runflat tires. There were two incidents that involved a tire puncture and I'm glad I had those runflats even if it means I have to replace the tire whenever it happens. I'd much rather be able to continue driving then have to pull over and change a flat.

Super clean. Amazing photography. Great taste in cars. Perfection

I almost have space gray envy but wife and I decided on mineral white on mocha nappa. Waiting to get the vehicle back from full body wrap and ceramic coating. I think you may have almost convinced me to get the m performance brakes just for the looks. I have everything other M part installed except the mirror caps.

It's been a while since I did anything to my X5 but here's something new that I just added. Red starter buttons from iND. It was fairly easy and straightforward to make the swap.

First I had to carefully pry off the entire front trim piece

This little module is what has to come out

Time to make the actual swap

Ta da!

Man does that look sharp!

It lights up just like the OEM starter button at night

Next project is to swap out those center console trim pieces for the leather knee bolsters from the X5M.

Nice mods. You just need to get the FULL Leather dash to compliment that interior.

I actually decided against getting the leather dashboard because of the long term durability issues. I have that full leather option in my Porsche and it's a PITA maintaining it all.

I like the attention to detail in terms of taping the steering column to prevent any possible scratches. Most people would be like "Eh, no one sees the back of the column anyway."
Nicely done. Like P1et said, you've always had tasteful/OEM+ mods. That and your pics have always been top notch as well.

I was lazy for many years and never got around to installing a bunch of mods I bought until now! Finally I installed the blacked out rear hatch BMW roundel and X5M knee pads!!

Rear roundel

The X5M knee pads. Those were tricky to install and this is how my console looked when everything was out!

Finally done!!

Next is the blacked out BMW roundel on the front hood. They're coming from iND any day now.

The black roundel looks great. I'm still trying to justify the price but it will definitely go with my panda theme.

How much are the knee pads and how much of a pain in the ass for a novice to replace it himself?

Thanks!

It was a little bit pricey at around $500 which is why I decided to try and do it myself. I'm not a complete novice but I'm nowhere near being a professional. If you're adept at using tools then you should be able to do it. You'd just need a set of torx bits from 15, 20 and 25.

Great timing (for me)!
I am about to do a complete interior mod and it includes the ones that you have done here. I am swapping the interior trim to the OEM CF trim kit, w/center console and shifter. I am also adding the red button and knee pads as well. Any tips that you can offer?

Ughhh, I still need to swap out the reflector for the painted one that I have had sitting in the closet for almost a year now.

Your mods look great, any other mods in the future?

The right passenger kneepad trim piece was a bit hard to put in. I kept thinking that the silver trim would scratch up the console cover but just gotta keep the back part high and force it in and then it'll come down. The driver's side was much easier. Also be careful pulling up the shift knob cover..there are 5 metal clips that are easy to fall off. They'll "disappear" underneath if they do come off. Pull it off gently with some force.

I thought about doing the CF trim pieces but ultimately in the end I decided to just stay with the wood. I have CF all over in two of my other cars and that's enough for me.

I still have the black spoiler lip that I may or may not install. Not sure I want to mess with the overall "clean" look of the exterior.

Haha I've had those knee bolsters sitting around for months now. Just haven't had the time to devote several hours to this. Did the red start button, front and back roundels, and leather center console from an X5M this past weekend. I was actually wondering why you taped up the steering wheel. when I pulled off the center trim I didn't notice it get anywhere close to it but I wasn't looking for it to as I pulled off trim from passenger side so was naturally pulling away from the column. Was that what you taped up for? Or another reason?
