New Guy. New X5 50i M Sport

Hi all. I just joined up. Without going into too much detail, I have a love of cars. I'm not very handy, but I love to drive and even just look at different cars.

And I'm basically looking for the perfect all around vehicle.

Fast
Snow capable
Good looks
Luxury and comfort
Relatively innocuous but still "nice"

That about sums it up.

So when my BMW dealer called up with a just in used (4,500 miles) 17 50i very loaded, I jumped on it. I negotiated a few bucks down and put a deposit sight unseen. Of course, I can get this deposit back if things don't go as planned upon seeing it, or they don't give me as much as I want for my trade.

I still think I paid a few grand too much. But there are no real comparisons out there. I found a similar mile, similar build 16 for about 5k less. Or double miles 16 for 10k less.

I'm ok with paying a smallish premium for the 17.

All that said, still debating a new RRS. But that sticks out like a sore thumb. And this saves me near to 20k, and I do love the vehicle.

M Sport
Executive
Lighting
Enhanced USB
Sport suspension
Dynamic handling package
Cold weather
Driving assistance plus
HK radio
And all sorts of "lesser" options.

Paying 80k even. Is this a fair deal? I realize I can order one for 10k more. But this seems like a nice way to save some money and still get a super car.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Let's see the VIN. Better have every possible option for $80K, including CPO and maintenance!

Appreciate the feedback.

And for certain will insist on Certified Pre Owned for sure.

^^^

I meant to add that I had read 17's no longer come with maintenance. Is that not the case. Oil changes yes, maintenance no.

My initial response is do whatever makes you happy. The 50i is awesome. This one seems a little high and I think a much lower offer price is a good strategy. Go low, you can always come up. As a reference point I am getting ready to take delivery of a new 50i with DHP, M-Sport, and Individual interior trim with an MSRP of ~$89K that I ordered. I got them down to $81K upon placing order and I am not done negotiating prior to/at document signing (they do not know that yet . My goal is to get them down to $79,xxx before all said and done.
Good Luck.

I'll be honest: for that kind of money, I'd be expecting some more goodies that are available, such as:
- Nappa interior
- ACC Stop & Go
- Night Vision
- B&O
- Ventilated seats
- Apple Carplay

I think you could've easily brought it down to $75k if you haggled a bit more...BMW can usually offer about $6k off right from the beginning on a new build.

Not disagreeing.

But here is my thought process. 6k off of new build, 83.

Basically a brand new car, and essentially getting a free extended warranty. So if I add the value of the extended warranty, I'm closer to 77.

Could I do better, I'm sure I could. But this seems ok.

I'll go look at it today. If it's not perfect, I'll pass up on it and keep looking.

Mid-seventies if it includes CPO and transferable maintenance plan.

FYI. Just learned it's titled as a new car. It was a managers daily driver.

I got them to throw in 3 years of maintenance.

I feel ok with this.

It is still a used car despite not being titled for previous owner but do what makes you feel comfortable. Good luck with the vehicle.

Fair enough. But I don't take a value hit as second owner.

And I literally walked based on asking for a few bucks off. Well actually, more for my trade. I went back an hour later.

They stated that they had no room in any direction. They even tried to split the maintenance with me.

I acknowledge that I'm likely a terrible negotiator. But this car pretty much feels perfect to me. Not looking to begin the search anew.

I think this will work out super.

Thanks for the well wishes.

I can understand that. For some, wanting that perfect deal at the absolutely rock-bottom price is the end all, be all. For others, they want to be happy with the vehicle they're purchasing. For some, an extra $5K means the world. For others, they just want to enjoy the car.

Good to hear you got the 3-years of maintenance thrown in, on top of CPO. That means zero worries for you for quite some time.

Now go out and enjoy it.

Thanks man.

This just feels right. Finishing up paperwork now. Can't wait to get out and drive.

Yes. I bought a 50i this weekend and getting my price was extremely important. But I am not an emotional buyer - I can wait. 50i's are not selling that fast. Having DHP on a 50i is pretty special...
one thing - I can assure you will love this vehicle. I had essentially the same requirements and it is an amazing vehicle.
If you don't like the wheels - let me know I need a second set.

Yeah, I've definitely seen some 50i's that sat longer than I expected. But I'm very much the emotional buyer. And I didn't want to let this one go. Glad I didn't too, because I'm smitten.

The wheels are the icing on the cake, and what ultimately sealed the deal. Most any other set, and I would have needed to spend money to replace them.

50i is an awesome machine. I came from a 40d with a tune (E70) and this car ticks all my boxes. I have looked into all the mods available, but 6-7 months in - it hasn't felt slow yet! Having said that, in Australia a 50i does'nt get much left to option having a lot of standard kit.

The one thing I need to get used to is the throttle tip in pins everyone back in their seats. They need to recalibrate this so eco/comfort are not so sensitive.

Not much I want to mod on mine - definitely not touching the engine.
Will do some coding - anti dazzle for headlights, DVD in Motion,
Would also like some of the darker exhaust tips - current chrome looks a little busy on my Carbon black. Lastly a hitch for a bike rack.
I'll read about mods - but more anxious to really put some time into detailing it.

Sweet ride, love my 50i and yes the throttle tip in is aggressive but you do get used to it. Congrats!!
