I agree, it's no comparison to a DCT on a M3. For me I only find it useful when you want to drop a gear to pass or maybe use engine braking on a down hill. Most of time it's not very useful. Especially on a diesel that doesn't rev as high.

I called BMW NA Customer Relations/1-800-831-1117, according to rep my order (X5 35D xLine) started production on 7/29 and scheduled to finish on 8/5, my brothers order (X5 35D M Sport) started production on 7/25 and scheduled to finish on 8/4. Both cars were ordered on 7/5/14, and was scheduled for week 32.

Your brother's order sounds a lot like mine! Mine is also scheduled for 8/4 completion. Sounds like they're in the same batch!
BTW are you able to track your car's progress on bmwusa.com ? I still can't add the car to the "My cars" section using the production order #. Maybe it'll be in there once the car ships, which at that point is kind of pointless.

I spoke about this with 800# and they mentioned that until the car completes production, you cannot add it to the profile. They also mentioned me that we should not be adding the vehicle with VIN.

Do these vehicles get transported on car haulers or ships or both?

definitely do not attempt to add your vehicle prior to production completion via the last seven of your vin. i tried this tuesday morning & it completely locked me out of my account. four calls & two days later, the "IT" department finally had my account reset. however, they simply sent an email with a note to reset my pw, but did not mention the vin issue. consequently, i reset my pw & immediately locked myself out again by attempting to track my vehicle via the vin.

hopefully, my experience saves many of you from the same frustrating issue.

You are right. I did setup 2 accounts by adding the vehicle using VIN and I cannot login to my account again.

This time I created a third one and not attempting to add via VIN.

Same here, unable to add cars to my online account. Only the 800 number works for production status as my ca is out of the country. No info on the VINs yet and will not bother to find it as it doesn't work for tracking.

^ Have you tried using the production# to track the vehicle? I had my production# a week or so before I had the VIN and was able to track it right away using the production#.

Today I was able to add the cars on my online account. Both cars were ordered 7/5/14. I have the x Line and the M Sport is my brothers. Tracking information appears behind than what is available with BMW customer relations (1800#). Representative reported that both cars were on Assembly Finish/Quality Check stage as of 8/4 (M Sport) and 8/5 (x Line). I guess few more weeks to get to the dealer.

some people are mentioning that their vehicles are ready to be picked up by carrier. May be the EPA hold is for diesel only? I am not sure.

Built in a couple of days? Is he being too optimistic? I expected a couple of weeks for the build to be completed from the start. I'll be happy if it's true. Anyway I'll keep you posted.

PS. Does anyone have experience with lease end with BMW? I am turning my current 3 series in in the next week or so and I went over the allowed mileage. My dealer says I can call BMWNA and I can pay the 16 cents per mile (vs 20 cents) if I call at least 24 hours before I turn the vehicle in. Seems very convenient. What have your experiences been?

Update2: Confirmed from BMW NA, production started and will be completed 7/29.

Car was at the dealership since Saturday, picking it up tomorrow!
