What wheels do you all think will look best for my winter wheel set up for a Space Gray M-Sport: BMW 467M or 449?
Thanks Last edited by SUV55; 09-18-2014 at 06:15 AM.. |

I can't find any M-Sports in Space Gray with 449 wheels either. I would like to see it on an M-Sport if poosible. Does anyone out there have good photoshop skills? If so posting such a photo would be very appreciated.

Opasha, those powder coated wheels look great! My brother mentioned if he could improve the look of his 467s on his white M-Sport. How do you think the black powder coating these wheels would look on a white vehicle?

On a white vehicle, they would look great only if he used a glossifier coating after he powder coated because I don't think matte black wheels look that great in general. http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=998023: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...hp?p=15798343:

I just finished this render on @atomic80's Space Grey M-sport when he still had his 20" 469M wheels. I should have used a 19" setup, but I couldn't find a nice picture that had a complete side profile. The one I posted up above was a pretty small/terrible image, so I thought it wouldn't do the car justice by modifying that one. The setup here is closer to a 20" setup, but you get the idea. If it really bothers you, I can do the render for you with 19" wheels if you find me a better side profile space grey m-sport. However, this gives you a good idea. I used real wheels from the picture above I posted and I also used the wheel picture from BMW's website for the 449. Trust me and go for the 449 wheel.

Thanks for the photos Opasha. You are awesome!

I had a 50i with Conti DWS on 20's. If you put the Contis on you will not require snow tire/wheel package. They are quieter, ride better, and get around very well in snow and slush. Powered through stuff like this last winter all the time. I live in the MW.

Have you ever had narrower all seasons or dedicated snow tires 18's or 19's? Would love to hear a comparison of any prior vehicles with a description of tires used vs the 20" DWS. Compared to 19" dedicated snows like Dunlop sport 3d or Pirelli Scorpion, I would think they would be vastly superior. If the 20" DWS worked well in very snowy conditions, that would save me quite a bit of money. Thanks Last edited by SUV55; 09-20-2014 at 05:19 PM.. |

I would love to get more info on the 20" DWS, too. I live in the west coast, where it is below freezing for only couple of days.
Is it OK to just replace the RF tires to DWS, & switch back after winter is over? Or Should I get another set of rim for winter use only? |

1. Upper Midwest. We get everything for weather. Cold and snow worst since the 70s this last year. 2. Both. It snowed everyday for weeks at a time, hence the photo I attached. Comfortable at 60mph on snow packed highways for a competent driver. 3. A 20" with a 325 staggered setup will always have more tendency to "float" than a narrow 18 or 19 series tire. But the AWD coupled with good tires never let me down. 4. Never put dedicated wheels or smaller wheels on any Bimmer or any other vehicle I owned. Just good tires. So, unfortunately I do have a comparison. 5. $1100 for the Contis: keep the 20" look year round, get a better ride, quieter ride, longer lasting tires, and save money not buying another set of wheels/tires. For transparency sake the vehicle was leased for my wife (as we always do) and we knew it was going back so I was not going to pay for winter wheel setup when the offset changed when the F15 was rolled out and the E70 in the pic was outgoing model. I have only owned/leased AWD or 4x4 vehicles my whole life and the Xdrive was impressive once it had a good pair of shoes on it. Have not ordered a F15 yet, (looking at RRS V8SC instead) but if I do it will have MSport 20s with Pirelli Snow and Ice RFTs so I do not have to order a Space Saver Spare this time. Go read the reviews on the large Contis and Pirellis at Tire Rack. I did my homework before and it paid off like you are. |

Thank you for your in depth response. Interesting take on the DWS 20" tires. It's not the first time I heard the Conti 20's hold their own in snow and ice. Compentent/very good traction...yes. Optimal...probably not as I am sure there is some room for improvement. The softer rubber compounds in conjunction with narrower dedicated winter tires will likely take things up a notch. $3,000 is a good bit of $ for optimal. Hmmm.

I agree. The problem I had is ANOTHER $3K for wheels/tires after I shell out $80K for the vehicle....Give us a tire option BMW for the US/C market since we do not have the Autobahn!!! A grand or so on tires to fit on the wheels I ordered and paid up for is less of a big deal. Plus the benefits of a quieter ride, more compliant ride, less trips to a dumbass dealer, and year round feasibility made more sense to me. The RFTs suck and I knew this going in. 24mos. and no trips to the dealer except for 1 service! If I have to resort to 8 wheels and 8 tires on an ALL WHEEL DRIVE SAV then I will seek out better options...Escalade, Denali, GL550, RRS... no changing wheels or tires on those beasts.
Honestly, the Contis are the best way to go and I loved them but in keep in mind if you get a flat they are not RFT and most Bimmers do not have a spare so research and prepare for the worst. |
