Adaptive LED's but no Auto High beam - will this avoid dazzling oncoming drivers?
It's summer, and I don't really want to test with unsuspecting drives coming towards me.
I have a 2017 X5 40e with adaptive LED's but no auto high beam. The lights swivel at night on low beam. And light up the front fog when turning... But there's no info on whether or not the anti-dazzle works with you don't have the auto high beam function as well. Does anyone know? Or do I need to damage someones retina to try & find out? |

If auto high beam feature isn’t turned on (or you don’t have it)…then only your low beams are on…thus you shouldn’t be blinding oncoming traffic.
If you manually turn on your high beams…then yes, you will be blinding oncoming traffic. The fog lights do turn on when making a turn and you use your turn indicators (or when reverse is selected) but the one on the driver’s side doesn’t turn on right away…to not blind oncoming traffic…it turns on later as you get further into the turn. Just like the headlights…they do not swivel to the driver’s side when sitting still…you have to be moving at a certain speed for them to swivel to the driver’s side. You can see this if you turn on your headlights while facing a wall. The lights will swivel on the passenger side (while parked)…but will not swivel to the driver’s side. BTW, there’s probably videos in your iDrive owners manual that shows you how adaptive headlights work. You can see in the pics below that I have 15 videos (animated explanations)…and since I have Adaptive LEDs & Auto High Beam…there’s a video that explains how both features work.
