Mostly comfort, but was in sport for some of the trip. I might have gotten the tires loose at a stop light...

Honestly, how do you guys get the 258hp 30d/35d to do an average of near 40 US mpg??? That is so crazy! It's a 2.2-2.3 ton monster! That's figures for a small Toyota!
Mine is now on 20000km with an average of 25 US mpg.
Yes I do have quite a heavy foot but still.
I have tried a few times to really drive economical but can never reach lower than 0,9 l/100km when I do the 200km trip to my countryhouse. And that is in ECO-mode.

I am with you. I still only have under 300 miles on the car, but am getting closer to 17-18 mpg on my 35d. Granted I am 97% city driving. I refuse to drive with Eco Mode because the car becomes a slug, but I should be seeing closer to 25mpg in Comfort mode, I would hope.

Perfect. Will incorporate. "Dual carriage way", so I presume that is a UK MPG for when I need to convert.

You would assume correctly sir.

I do the same journey in my 535d f10 and I get around 33 mpg from that

I wouldn't say nursing, but I was sticking to the speed limit. Mainly 50mph but some roadworks taking it down to 40.

I have just had another trip in Eco pro and got the attached and did take it fairly easy on motorways and A roads.

Trip tonight, with reset. Mostly highway, and 87% in ECO Pro mode, about +2 C.
Results only a fraction different from my last input here, but this should be kind of a re-confirmation of the mpg, and it looks quite stable.
Seems it is hard to get under this number, at least with this temperature, tires and so on. Maybe in summer :-)

Tried to get max mpg out of the X5M50d, so kept gas steady on uphill and coasted downhill on a circle road around the city with 80/kmh speed limit, just a few lights. The most impressive is the range . You also see my city average in the lower corner. Less Webasto has made it go down... Took another photo of the range once parked. It was actually pretty easy to get it below 6.0 at 70-80 km/h! I got it as low as 5.3 km/h /1049 km range.

Pretty typical road trip for me below. 7.2 l/100 km = 32.7 USMPG = 39.2 MPG.

I did just finish another 400 km at 6.9 l/100km.

kip1 c3uo thank you both. I have updated post #1 in this thread to reflect the additional data. Kip1, having a tough time making out the second photo.

Impressive results. I am starting to believe the U.S. EPA mpg for the diese is very conservatively stated. Everyone who tries to maximize seems to beat it.

MPG add-on suggestion

MattBianco Niko, doubtless you've already thought of this and discounted the idea; It occurred to me when filling up my tank today and seeing what the range is when I first left the petrol station forecourt; My display said I had 686 miles to go before empty. Is it worth adding this to your matrix?
I think we have all have the same tank capacity @85 Litres.

Just a thought

Could have been an interest data to capture. With the mpg /l/100k data we can always impute the range for each driver/car.

Great tires! I'll add the comment to the data. Tires do affect MPG, but I am not sure by how much. The same route, driven the same way would be very telling.

Think you should also add a column on weather conditions, especially if there was a head wind or tail wind

Beat this!

Conditions: four passengers, 3/4 tank fuel, slight tailwind (circa 2-4 mph), EcoPro, about 200 ft of downhill over the course of the distance, started trip odometer when cruise speed was reached, driven for max efficiency.
