Senoromar! Thanks, you're right! I remembered it wrong. 19/27, 22 combined. Maybe it'll come up a bit once things are broken in.

After ~13k miles I've never had the computer tell me I'm doing more than 12mpg in my 50i. Most often it's in the 9-11 range.

Window sticker: 16 combined city/hwy | 14 city | 20 hwy | 6.2gal/100mi

Tank capacity: Approx. 22.5gal. (per owner's manual)

My commute is a fairly even split of city/hwy imo. Those familiar with Chicago - I live on the Northside and take Lakeshore from Hollywood to North and then it's just a few blocks of stop and go from there. (7.9mi fwiw). Mornings typically have some traffic but evenings allow for 40-60mph on Lakeshore. Sport mode on the on-ramp but other than that I'm in D the whole time

I recently reset my trip computer at the pump following a fill-up. Keeping a close eye on the fuel gauge, I checked back in on the computer when the dash told me I had run through half the tank.

Computer: 109mi | 10.9mpg | avg speed 16.1mph (Anyone know if the mpg and avg speed are just the most recent start to stop or averaged across the entire 'trip'?)

Approximate calc using tank capacity and miles: 9.7mpg

So what do you think? Is it realistic to look at estimated fuel consumption based on the tank capacity and what the dash gauge tells us? Considering it's not a laser accurate measurement, is ~1gal/mi off what the computer says acceptable? How about ~5-6gal/mi off what they tell us on the sticker?

I understand a more accurate way to do your own mpg calculation would be to fill up - reset the trip computer and then at the next fill up look at the exact gal you just put in and subtract from 22.5 and then take the exact miles off the trip computer. I've just kicked off a second analysis on fill up this morning.

I may spark up a new thread on this if this one doesn't come back to life.

Here is the MPG thread: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1081659

And here are 34 data points (as of today) from the first post in that thread, covering all engine variants:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...NZl_g8/pubhtml

Depending on how and where I drive the 35d, I can get 40mpg or 15, and I have done both. Vino4u sent a life to date result of 12.7 mpg for his 50i, and nearly 21 mpg on one drive. Earlier this week F15X5MSport sent a 26.4 mpg highway result for his 50i.

Please post a photo to my MPG thread mentioned above. Not enough 50i data points. Thanks.

Haha. I only have 3 years to have fun on this car. Might as well.

1,000 miles and 3 fill ups later I'm doing 14.6 mpg on my 35i with 90% city and 10% highway. I suspect the MPG will be slightly better when I have reached 5k miles or more... but I didn't get this car for MPG concerns. I have only been in eco pro driving mode once or twice just to see what it was about. I am in Sport+ 85% of the time and "drive" my X5!

Best tank i got on my 35i was 18.3mpg, 363 total miles with 25 miles left till 0, 4K miles on the car. That was spring break week however with much lighter traffic. Generally I get about Ben's numbers, 15.5 - 16.0mpg.

I have averaged 25.9 for the last 2800 miles with my 35d. That is a combo of city highway - mostly city suburban roads, about 20% highway

I got 18.0 mpg on the last tank, but that was 95% highway. Usually seeing between 14-15 mixed city/highway. We have almost 2k miles on our 50i now.

I'm going to Vegas this weekend, lets see how efficient this twin turbo v8 is. My prior e70 x5 5.0 didn't do that well.

I get only 16mpg in LA traffic on my 35i so 15 on a 50i sounds great to me. My E70 50i would get about 22mpg on vegas trips... Pretty solid for a V8 in my opinion.

I drive 60 miles round trip daily, 95% interstate. averaging 22.4 mpg with my 50i. very acceptable. I use Shell v-power 93 octane. easily 400 miles on a tank. my range indicator is always 500 miles+ after fill up. No BS
