I honestly feel like the bass was stronger on the HK in my previous X5 compared with the new one. Everything else sounds great and the bass isn't bad at all. It also could be due to me getting the comfort seats. I think I remember reading there were subs installed in the seats of the old X5. I could be wrong though.

I have a suspicion that H&K sounds softer, due to the paper speakers, unlike metallic in B&O.
Those midrange with the special brackets are the reason no BMW specfic speakers (like Focal or MB quart) work plug and play.

I spent 2k upgrading the base stereo on my f10 only to have wierd vibrations and rattles with every kickdrum or heavy bass. dynamatted the hell out of door panels etc. but couldn't get the rattle out. it sounded fantastic otherwise but annoyed the hell out of me.

i am nervous about upgrading my HK. if i do, i will only upgrade the drivers and not install an amp because i don't want another rattle for the sake of tighter bass (volume is fine but its a bit soft now). what i really want is better clarity and imaging which i can get with just front midrange and tweeter upgrade (if i can find a pnp set).

I know that looks aren't everything, but this really is a cheap looking set of speakers. Looking at the magnets on the bass speakers, I can see why the sound is not that powerful!

have you turned the bass level up and adjusted the "-100" higher on the equalizer? that improves the bass a lot, and sounds pretty good for a factory stereo.

I do agree that there was more bass and "SPL" in my last E70 than the B&O in my F15. However, the B&O bass is much more clear and tighter than the E70 HK. By far better clarity. The mids and highs are also much better with B&O but I do agree it doesn't have as much thump in the chest as the HK. I also have not cranked up the bass in the equalizer to max either as I don't want to drown out the music.

My days of booming with (3) JL Audio 13W7's are over. Quality is what interests me.

Simply interesting, why in H&K there is more bass than in B&O? Even butt feel it better.
Despite the fact that in B&O 1200 watts, and in H&K 600.
Perhaps this can be solved if to put a subwoofer in the trunk, to B&O system? Or here still matters amplifier, loudspeakers, cuts?

That's why I stopped on the B&O.
Although of course in the В&О aslo many disadvantages, beginning from the glamorous design (as for me, to F85 he did not fit at all. It can be saved only by Full Merino Leather, aslo on which i dont have money).

, finishing a weak bass. But with regard to high frequencies and clarity, the B&O definitely better.
As for the treble, probably it should be added that on B&O there are slight excess of it (perhaps due to the lack of bass) and a slight metal sounding. But in general high frequencies on B&O sounds better due to high clarity which remains crystal-clear even at high volume, on which at H&K they turn into mess.

I have! I also played around with the equalizer many times, still the sound, for an upgraded system on a BMW is short on expectations. For instance, when I get the sound right (volume), it's hard to control it when other people talk and you want to hear them, even when you adjust the speed volume. When you adjust the equalizer for quality of music, the volume need to be turned up so that you can hear the different tones of the music. To me, my older HK system was easier to control and I thought it put out a better sound. My nine speaker Pioneer system in my Cruze sounds as good as my current HK system, plus you can control it better.

I think they are just pandering to their target market, I have the HK system on a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I can't get the base low enough for my liking. And I like the default bass level on the B&O system in the X5.

I'm bumping this thread since it has been the most useful informstion and review comparing the F15 HK to B/O.

I thought I had sold myself on the B/O, until I went and listened to it. Like others have said, it is lacking in bass. Fairly certain I am going to go with HK now and do a custom enclosure with a 10" W7.

Does anyone know if the "bass speakers" (as BMW refers to the under seat woofers) are powered by an external dedicated amp? I'm guessing not, which is one of the reasons bass is lacking, and why replacing them with bavaudio ghost woofers might help tighten up the response, but probably won't lower the frequency range much or make a whole lot more bass.

Anyone do side by side to determine fidelity? About to order her a new X5 and have the B&O boxed ticked. Just want some opinions. Thx!
Paying $5,000 more doesn't necessarily mean that you're getting your bang for every single buck in this scenario!
HK is more than enough in this little box. End of the story.

I have heard the B&O system and it doesn't seem "better" than the HK system. It's a different signature. I have driven many cars with the HK system and I prefer it more. Not a fan of the B&O. A friend of mine swears the B&O in this car is better, so each to his own.

That said, I have a Merdian 1700W system in my other car and that one I do like and it was worth every penny.

Yep. Pre-ordered mine when they first came available, should ship starting next week. I will post a review after install.

Are there any reports available stating that the subs in question are a mile further from at least HK, apart from the standard HiFi system?

Mine currently says Dec 29 - Jan 12, 2016. Not a good sign as it looks like delivery slipped week for week since I ordered it. Original commit was today. Ordered October 19th.
