I did but the slat shape is different and the ring is black, I have M performance and same thing the slat its more of a straight shape and also the gaps in between are big..

there seems to be 2 oem f85 versions of the double slat grilles--one standard one with chrome surrounds and the black one. hard to tell from the pic because of all the reflections on the slats but are the slats themselves gloss black on both versions? looksl like it from the closeup pics.

I have that version (not from him but i think its the same taiwan based supplier)

the gap is big but i do like it. what I don't like is that the oem grille slats are deep and beefy 2 peice design the taiwan one is very lightweight and thin. maybe not so noticeable if you haven't seen it before installation but I do notice it now. it was cheap so i don't care so much but i do miss the chrome surrounds so if there is an oem one like the f85 without the /m then i would want it.

I'm considering all different options for my planned grill replacement which is what brought me to this thread. To be honest, i'm not sure why there would be so much hate if the OP fitted X5 M grills, either the standard OEM or M Performance. He's driving an M50d which literally has the X5 M (50d) badging already. It's not a standard 30d with the M sport kit. If it was, I could understand the poser comments.

I haven't decided exactly what I'll do, but I'm certainly considering the X5 M grill for my M50d.

Honestly.. Some M owners are arrogant and have the they are better than others attitude or feel like they are special in this world. Unless you pay for the real M car no one should put any ///M badging anywhere. What's ironic here is that Wdimagineer had a Msport 50i prior to his X5M and he had the side fender m badging and somehow felt immune to criticism from others because he had this done on request from the factory versus doing it himself. His X5 had number of m badged accessories on his car.

Some can also argue that the X5M isn't a true M car either

@Kzang I feel you.
I got little love from M owners. Most of them think the F85 X5M F86 X6M is a whole different car than F15 X5 F16 X6.

iND have a X5M grill which you can have paint matched, and you can also option painted badging. I assume this is an OEM M Performance grill which they modify.

If I went this route for my X5 i'd most likely order in gloss black (default) with gloss black or shadow black badge to match the rear X5 M50d badging on the rear.

I'm also considering adding the gloss black or shadow black front and rear roundels, but wish to do more research into them before I do. Hopefully at that point the only silver on the car are the Ferric Grey mirror caps and front intake fins.

Opinions needed

Hi guys,

I put the black grilles on my X5 50i M Sport today (have the M black wheels so it ties together very well).

But I'm curious, I'd like to put a black M badge on the new grille - NOT the X5M badge, but just a plain M with the colours.

Definitely not trying to be something it's not, but love the look and like to represent. On the fence since my car is branded M all over already.....but it is not an X5M and I know this.

Acceptable? Thoughts?
