Spotted a unicorn in WV X5 M50d...or is it?
I was extremely excited to see something I didn't think they sold here in the states. I was wondering what sort of workaround the owner used to get this awesome car here. Then I started doing some digging and it looks like the tailpipes are incorrect, so I'm guessing this is just an X5 35d? As I remarked to my buddy, there's only about 5 people in the entire state that would be impressed by such an oddity, and all 5 would be able to figure out this fuckery.
So I ask the experts on here (I'm an MB guy), is this legit or is it a fake? Would love for it to be real. |

I'm not an expert with the packages and all, especially with the m50d but I don't think this is an authentic m50d. I'm pretty sure that all m50d came with the m-sport package and that rear bumper isn't. Also, that m50d logo is about a half inch or so too far to the right.

Maybe he upgraded the motor.. but definitely not the body. Definitely comes with the MSport Package.

Unfortunately you didn’t spot a unicorn…you spotted a poseur (aka fake).
…wrong tail pipes and rear bumper: F15 M50d

That being said, can you elaborate on what you did to convert yours? I'm assuming they're all the same 3.0 inline 6 block, but I can't image the amount of effort and money required to add a third turbo and all of the necessary plumbing/cooling and ECU changes? |

My current DD is a tuned W212 E400 that is completely debadged.. that seems like the more fun option. |

I love how he doubled down on his fakeness by purchasing a personalized plate featuring "M Diezel".
He couldn't even spell diesel correctly! |

Well, to be fair, I think it's a pretty clever plate. I'm guessing someone else who has a 335d or 535d already had the proper spelling. I'm hopeful the owner is on these forums and comes back to explain how this thing is actually legit. I really really really want it to be legit, because I want one or at least the option of building one.

I know from experience that a modern CRD with deleted DPF and EGR are already a monster and the BMW versions can give a non tuned 35i or even some Ms a run for their money. It's more fun to leave others confused about what just happened than to think they kept up with a fake M/AMG
