X5 50i Whinning/Hum Sound Following RPMs

Hello all, long time listener, first time caller. When I sit inside our X5 and drive I hear what I can only call a combination of a hum and a whine. It happens and gets louder with RPMs. If you click over to sport mode it gets worse, or when a down shift occurs. It's my wife's car and she does not notice, but I do and it drives me CRAZY. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Do u have adaptive sound activated? I’ve tried it with both on and off , and I’m in the minority about liking it better with it on. I think it really does a good job of accentuating the engine’s mechanical sounds.

I had a similar noise and it got noticeably louder after 40kmph. Turned out that entire front diff needed to be replaced.

This is a good read as well
