I don't know what they put on that tire, but that tire looks pure black.

I agree, hybrids are a huge waste of money. Plug-in hybrids, however, are what will bring electric cars into the mainstream. Regular hybrids don't make enough of a difference in gas mileage to make them worth the investment. Plugin lets me drive to work and back purely on electric, in a vehicle that I can use for everything else I need a vehicle for. Like long road trips. It won't be stranded out in the middle of nowhere in need of a charge. Everybody doesn't live in an urban environment. There are realities that have to be taken into account. Not everyone can invest in multiple vehicles for multiple purposes. The gasoline delivery infrastructure is established. Electric charging infrastructure won't be established to that extent for a couple of decades, if ever. The fact remains that gasoline is the densest form of energy, by far, that we have. And it's everywhere. And a huge amount of potential energy can be put in your vehicle in millions of different places in about 2 minutes. I have no use or desire for a purely electric car. It makes no economic sense for me to buy an entire vehicle for short trips. They suck in the winter. They suck in the summer. It's nice to dream, and be enthusiastic about new technology, but it will be longer than some people would like to believe before pure electric becomes a logical choice for very many people. I love the idea of an electric X5 that still has an internal combustion engine and drives like a conventional vehicle.

I think what really happens here is that the car costs $5k more than it should and then you take $5k off and you're more willing to pay for it. So I guess its really a $5k gift to the car manufacturers (dealers).

If you fall under AMT however, no $5k less lunch for you!

But you are paying 1/3 at the pump or possibly even less than with 35i
May daily commute is 14 miles, perfect candidate to use ICE only for long trips
And one tank of gas will last a few months

Well, its one of the credits I can still get! Phase out of credits bite.

The tax code's idea of 'rich' isn't any where Near my idea.

Tax payers helping Rich?
It's a rebate for anyone who pays tax, or if you will, - your own tax credit
You're just paying this much less tax, that's all

LOL Check the household income of most people buying these. These vehicles cost more than the average household income in the USA. that is why I said tax payers helping "rich guys" buy their car. But hey who am I to complain, we also had the cash for clunkers program too.

Then you may need to check definition of "rich"
Anyone who can afford X5 35i, can equally afford eDrive. In fact, for a lot of people it'll be as expensive as X3, after gas savings and rebates

I bet if you run the numbers it'll cost as much as Honda Pilot to operate

It would be perfect for my daily commute of 18 miles. I would only have to fill up once per month!! I bet the power and acceleration is also great too.

No doubt
With my daily 14-mile commute, i would be filling up ones in a blue moon

P.S. I just like that sensation of dead quiet cabin when you pull out from your garage and to not leave any cold-start fumes

A friend of mine is about to throw down a deposit for the waiting list. His advisor termed it an "X5e". Don't know if it has been re-branded or if this is just miscommunication at the dealership level.

Nonetheless, he was told he could place an order as early as MARCH! Excited to see if the production car lives up to the concept.

I am sure we will be seeing that car earlier than first thought.

The Vision Concept showcasing BMWs new fuel cell technology will now be reveals at Geneva instead of the NAIAS. So essentially there is room for another premiere.

Is this fuel cell Vision Concept going to be a full concept-car or a close to production show-car of the upcoming 5 GT?
