BMW X5 or Range Rover Sport?
A colleague of mine was debating between these two to lease, and wanted a few extra opinions on the matter.
Found a side-by-side picture comparison of the details of the two cars: http://www.canadianautoreview.ca/pho...hotoshoot.html Any thoughts? |

If leasing, BMW all the way. You will probably pay for almost 2 X5 if you lease a RR. If you care for technology, BMW all the way. RR technology is on the Stone Age. Reliability? BMW!!! You better get 2 RR so you have enough spare parts. Look? I like RR better.

Search this forum. I had a topic posted before.
After having my X5, I had no regrets. The looks of new X5 are very impressive and the presence is felt even on road. |

I have driven both as I am still in market for a bigger vehicle but instead blew money on Ftype.
BMW X5 5.0 with almost all options except dynamic handling package - BMW HUD, 360 camera and tech features were awesome. - BMW pick up was decent - Steering and handling were ok -Rear space plus 3 row were pitiful -Lease rates are attractive (assuming you can get invoice plus $1500) -Free BMW maintenance program Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Autobiography -Engine, ride quality, exhaust and handling were superior to X5 -The SUV height is adjustable - for high speed, it lowers down but for off road, you raise the height. - Superior interior compared to X5 - Info system is dated compared to X5 - Lease rates are horrible, you are better off buying it or financing it. - Reliability is strong - Rear space is slightly bigger than X5 - There is a cliche/presence adv with Range Rover Sport I think if money is no object, RR Sport is better but sensible money should get X5. |

We own two of the previous rr sports. I have test driven the new sport a couple of times. The Range interior is nowhere near as nice as the X5 one. My 40d m sport on 19s rides better than the sdv6 on 21s.

Don't think it is about money. It is about lease vs buy and preference. I quoted a leasing for a X5 and a RR Sport both with the MSRP. To lease the RR you have to put twice or three times the money down you put on a X5 and still pay more than a 50% higher monthly payment. It makes no financial sense to lease a RR. Now if you are going to pay cash then it is about preference. RR looks way nicer from outside. It looks bigger and people turn their heads around when they see one. However, the inside is just OK and technology is really outdated. The X5 has a very nice interior and technology is very high end and updated.

I also have to agree, even though I do love how the RR Sport looks, it def has the same styling of lights as the Ford Explorer. I'm pretty sure the Ford changed its shape in 2011 to those lights, so Land Rover copied (not that there hasn't been any copying in vehicle history - prime example = audi leds). My cousin's dealership in Utah sells many RR Sports. Here are some pics of two 2014 RR Sports: Last edited by opasha; 05-10-2014 at 04:04 PM.. |

I heard Jaguar Land Rover claiming that their design was conceived first but due to financial difficulties/sell off to TATA, Ford copied and executed faster than Land Rover. They also claimed Fusion has copied looks of XJ and Aston. |

You could be right about Land Rover having the idea first due to TATA negotiations being in the way of production. I just looked up the history of Ford Explorer model changes and when they changed the lighting, so I just assumed they had it first. |

I'm not sold on the sport, it has the range rover (full size) front and the squashed evoque rear plus the exhaust look a little too close.
Can you tell I really don't like the evoque!!
