Haha! Got it! It's CCM, the same brand as a hockey gear. It's Canada, eh?

(Though it's now two completely separate companies).

I can see the M logo being the first thing being ripped off this thing by someone for a keep sake.

Well at least it's designed by BMW design works vs just a rebrand that we see so much of.

I won a BMW bike a while ago, I think it was the model before this one and it's not to shabby. Since it was free I upgraded some components and it's been as solid as the trek bikes we have.

It's actually a hydro-formed frame which is pretty cool vs just bent tubing. But yea the price is stupid.

Now their mountain bikes look bad ass! Love their sculpted frame. Another touch on the newer bikes which is nice is they run and hide the cables through the body frame and hidden from view which gives them a nice clean look. Just a little detail but it's a nice touch.

We need cyclists to chime in on this one. To me it's just another bike. I know street cyclists' bike can go for $5,000+

Funny how the only image of the bike in action is with a guy holding it awkwardly has he's about to step into the street.

Also, they should have done the calipers in gold.

I have seen better equipped kids bikes for less! Should stick to what they are good at and stop diluting the brand with add on rubbish. At least BMW haven't done a fragrance like MB and Ferrari!

See my post above #34.

Frankly, the new road bike I was eyeing this year goes for about $12,000 to $14k. The MTB Mt Bike was $7,500.

All this makes this sub $2,000 BMW bike quite reasonable...

before criticizing BMW about this bike, the low end components, unworthy frame, etc--remember--this bike is not intended to be used as a true mountain bike or road bike. It's a hybrid city/gravel type bike.

It does not have agility, especially with those cheap components. You pay for the badge and maybe the frame if its real CF made in Germany. If its made in taiwan like every other bike why not just get a real bike from Rocky Mountain.

This bike has an aluminium frame. Calling it carbon edition is misleading at least. As a former bike enthusiast I have to say that this bike is ridiculously overpriced and nothing worth to wear an m badge.

Actually the derailleur reads XT. Mtb/hybrids use the wider range components. Still...meh,

This bike doesn't deserve the M badge ... M is about performance ... and this bike definitely isn't. Heck ... this bike isn't even at a M-Sport level.

Lower end Deore components. An XT derailleur is nice but it's still the lower end of the top selection of components. Then there's the weight which I'd suspect is closer to 30 lbs than not (my fully outfitted aluminum full suspension 29'er that I built without regard to weight weighs that! The only carbon fiber I have on it is handlebars)

The M bike's level of components:

Brakes - Deore
Shifters - Deore
Crankset - Deore
Front Derailleur - Deore
Rear Derailleur - XT
Pedals - Look to be Acera or Alivio level ... highly doubt they're sealed

Wheelset - unbranded ... likely because its low level as well.

For those who aren't versed in Shimano MTB levels they're as follows:

Acera
Alivio
Deore
SLX
XT
XTR
Saint

There's also Zee .. but that's more aimed at downhill racers.

Weight ... The version with the suspension fork weighs in at 33lbs ... take off 5lbs for the fork swap and it's still a 28lb bike. Not exactly "performance" level.

As far as looks ... it's pretty cool. Almost if Mondraker and GT had a love child. Overall not quite worth the price. There's a lot better bikes out there for that price tag ... you're definitely paying for the cache of it being a limited edition BMW.

It just goes to show that BMW will put an M on just about anything regardless of it earning the badge. Sad.

That must've been quite a few years ago ... it looks like a 2000 Specialized S-Works. Even has a Manitou fork. At least it was outfitted with a XT groupset ... not just the rear derailleur.

I'd say the new BMW MTB's look to be based off Ellsworth (a bit basic in it's design though) ... at least it has Fox suspension and XT along with Crankbrothers Cobalt wheelset outfitted with Schwalbe rubber. Not too shabby.

Yea it was back in 2012, the generation before this current one. Design works just design's the frame everything else is all outfitted with someone else's stuff.

Still regardless of crap additions which can always be changed. The frames are hydro formed so they do have somewhat special look to them vs just traditional welded tube designed bike frames.

.

Still not worth the BMW tax they charge. But Still like the look overall.

I agree but disagree.

Granted ... this is not a race spec'd Road or Mountain bike which can run you the cost of a decent used BMW. This is an Urban bike which are typically a couple/few hundred over the $1k mark for a quality brand, although there's a few that top that (like Kona). But it's still overpriced a bit. Basically you're paying an extra 1/3'rd for a unique looking, non-major brand, limited ed. bike. For some that may seem reasonable ... for me, not so much. However it's not an absorbent amount.

Heck you can get an aluminum frame and carbon fork combo by the likes of Trek, Fuji, Giant and even Specialized (which Sirrus comes to mind: carbon frame and fork) ... all for under $1,400 ... and even less for closeouts, some well under $1k ... which are comparably equipped, although mostly road bike components not MTB, but about the same level. Of course sans the XT rear derailleur, but one can be purchased online for about $65. I will state that the Deore brakes are a very good hydraulic brake, and more than adequate for road use ... but definitely not worthy of the "M" moniker.

** For anyone interested .... on eBay there's the cruiser in medium with the Suntour fork for $1100 free ship. You could sell the fork and parlay it to a carbon one. You'd likely make out about $600 less than the stock Carbon M.

Full carbon road bike with 105 groupset for $1500AUD ($1200 USD) brand new from a bike shop.
