oskee, the pictures above indicate the strikers. Take of the plastic and you can see the springs. Mine will be adjusted tomorrow by the dealer

The X5 is at the dealer at this moment, I do not know how to adjust the springs my self. But the dealer had instructions printed. I'll ask them if I can get a copy, but as stated before, it's probably trial and error. And as the majority of X5's are having this minor issue, I guess they will leave the factory adjusted soon.
The issues I had so far: - ad blue reservoir warning (solved by software update) - steeringwheel column spring makes noise (solved today by dealer) - rear noise (fixed by plating the plastics upwards, but adjusted by dealer today) - the door seal problem is not a major thing for me, as it's easy avoidable Let's hope I will not get the chassy warning. |

Mine rattles too and it has become worse over the last few days.
Those strikers need to be in the down position ( up is just half way to taking them off . Guess this is only for assembly) If you take off the cap of the strikers, you can see the bolt and springs. Loosen the bolt, and you can adjust the striker. Then tighten again. I think the springs are only there to help you adjust, because once you tighten the bolt again, the striker will not move. I tried adjusting the rubber stops, but it doesn't help either. And if the striker is adjusted too tight, the trunk will not close...(electric closing mechanism opens the lid again) Will bring the car too the dealer next week for repairs... |

As stated above is the correct procedure. Just came back from the dealer and they printed the procedure, however in Dutch and on paper so not of much use to you. But the procedure is the same as on the E70.
The whole 'thing' actually sits on a screw which need to be released slightly to get it more outwards and thus stopping the tailgate from moving. Acces to the other side of the screw by taking away both side panels. |

I made an appointment have the creaking in the trunk fixed next week. Well, on Tuesday I decided to have a look at the strikers and anything else that may be contributing to this problem. I opened the hatch, cleaned them with a damp cloth and to my surprise the creaking is gone. It is now Friday and as of this morning's commute the vehicle was quiet, like it was meant to be. I fully expect that the creaking will come back when enough dust accumulates on the elements I cleaned, but I thought I would share this for those looking for at least some temporary relief.
This did also make me wonder if putting a bit of silicone grease on them would help longer term. I'll have to try that if/when the noise comes back. Unfortunately for me, unless the noise comes back before my appointment I have nothing to show the service adviser. |

Unfortunately I have to join this club, use mostly highway to work with music on, drove to the city testerday (no music) and of course now I can hear it in my sleep

I adjusted the latch on the tailgate (downwards) to make remove as much tension as possible when closing. Make sure it is centered as much as possible otherwise the noise will come either left or right side.
"For now" the noise is gone. The issue is the panel adjustment between the tailgate and the rest of the car body, but is much prefer a car without noise. Hope it helps |

Took ours in for similar noise, rattle in what sounded like passenger side of cargo area. I was told they took apart a lot of the plastic panels and just made sure everything was tight and added some felt tape to get rid of the rattle. Have only had it back since Wednesday, but so far, so good. He didn't say anything about adjusting any locking mechanism, striker, etc.. but I suppose that could have fallen under "made sure everything was tight.."

The dealer tried to adjust my tailgate based on some measurements but even the adjustment didn't fix it. They ordered some new parts from Germany. Next update in a couple of weeks when the new part(s) get installed.

Unsure whether the rattle is sourced from guide supports and at low speeds, if so Service Bulletin. Hopefully, rattle free by now.
