SIM card? Where located, what carrier in US, what speed?
Five questions for anyone in the know.
1) Does the F15 X5 have a SIM card? 2) If so, where is the SIM card located? 3) With what carrier is service provided in the USA 4) What cellular technology is the F15 using (3G WCDMA, 4G HSPA+, LTE)? 5) If a smartphone is connected via Bluetooth to the F15 will the F15 use the smartphone's data instead of the F15's data connection? Thanks. |

1) Yes, it does. It is permanently integrated into the X5. Before I think about 4-5 years ago, they had removable sims, but I guess they didn't want people messing around or screwing up the car so the made it one system to connect directly to them using whatever provider they are associated with in your respective country.
2) Even if we knew where it is located, it is "permanently integrated" according to BMW meaning it's most likely soldered with the car's GPS or something along those lines, but I could be wrong. 3) They have a contract with Vodafone: http://mobilemarketingmagazine.com/v...sim-every-bmw/, so whoever Vodafone partners are? I'm not 100% sure. 4) The BMW Online is definitely 3G. If it's an integrated SIM like Sprint and Verizon, then it's WCDMA. 5) Think of your X5 like your Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 or Pebble Smart Watch via bluetooth. It uses the phones data. Also, I could be wrong on the 3G, so if I am, please feel free to correct anything above .

+1 for the 3G speed. At least that's what I was told upon taking delivery.

Do you know if the SIM card and access to ConnectDrive is standard? I remember being asked if I wanted to pay a subscription to have internet in my car which I said no but I still can access some apps and get the weather forecast in my car. Is that standard or I am getting this service just to try?
