Winter Tires 2014 F15 50i 20" M-Sport

Can't find any search engine matching these tires, from researching it sounds like because of large brake pads?

Does anyone have the exact model #'s for the specific winter tires that will work with a 2014 F15 x50i 20" M-sport?

Is the only option all seasons at this point?

It's not because of the brake pads, it's because of the size. The size of the rear tires on the 20" setup is a strange size, not many tires are made in that size (315/35/R20). AFAIK, there are no specific winter tires for the 20" rims that are out in the market. Now, you may be able to up/downsize on those rims (put a less wide tire on, for example), but you'll need a tire shop to help you with that.

The best winter option that I know of is an all season tire:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Clar=M%20Sport

These are NOT run flats. There are no winter/all season run flats made in this size (again, not that I know of) or that will fit the 20" rims.

If you need real winter tires, I'd go to a tire shop, you're going to need to look at up/downsizing on the rim and that's more complicated than simply poking around on Tirerack. Or, you can buy another set of wheels for the winter in a R19 size. Sounds like that's what a lot of frequent winter drivers on this site wind up doing. If you get serious snow where you are, that's probably the best option. If you get moderate snow, I'd probably get the DWS tires and just change them every winter so that I was sure they had the best possible snow traction they could offer; it's probably enough for the snow we get in most parts of the US. If you live in the snowbelt; get a F150 with a plow to drive in the winter, leave the X5 in the garage!

As Overtaxed & Baunton stated NO 20" AS RFT. Below is Tire Rack 2012 article. Still none, as of yesterday.
http://blog.tirerack.com/blog/choose...with-20-wheels

BMW Canadian site only has 19 & 18 " winter sets. Smaller is probably a good idea for winter.

Check this thread or pm blacklemon, he used 20" winters on his stock 369m's. Guessing they're not RFT but I'm not sure he mentioned what tires he was using in the thread.

Pirelli makes the Scorpion Snow & Ice winter tire in a 315/35R20. Its also a run-flat. They've got the Winter Carver model as well.

Do the Pirelli ones perfectly? Or they need resizing?? Just past 4,000 km on my 35d m-sport, & I could hear a little tire screeching, when I'm making turns at low speed.

Not sure what you're asking here?

I have the 18" Pirelli Scorpion Snow & Ice (non-RF) on dedicated winter rims and they are great. Normally I run the 20" staggered set.

The guy at the shop recommended same tire size/width for all 4 winter wheels to make sure that the rear tires can fit into the track that the front tires make, it apparently helps with traction.

My understanding on winter tires and wheels is twofold:
1.) you want the same size tire all around and you don't necessarily want super wide tires as the wide tires aren't as good in the snow. That's why you'll see people go with a 255/55 18 or a 255/50 19.

2.) You want a smaller wheel and thus higher sidewall on the winter tread. This i because you're more likely to drive between bare and compact snow/ice spots and also on washboarding. with a low profile tire, you're more likely to encounter a puncture or worse yet a scraped rim.

My recommendation, for the price of what winter tires will cost you on the 20" is to downsize and get a dedicated set of winter rubber.

If it helps, picture of my recently purchased 19" 467m's Pirelli Scorpion Winter Run Flat Tyres.

I noticed in one of the links there is a reference to the ContiComfortKit, which is a small compressor and a liquid sealant as a temporary repair for a flat tire. This could eliminate the need for run flat tires if all weather 20's are needed or desired.

Anyone have any experience with such a kit? Does it work in the "real" world?

I've had 2 flats (on other cars, not the X5) over the past 7 years, all of them were fixed well enough to get to a tire shop with a simple can of "Fix a Flat". One time I had to drive 400 miles on a Fix a Flat tire once, not recommended, but, it worked fine.

Frankly, IMHO, I'd just get a 2 cans of Fix a Flat and call it a day. With 2 cans, unless the tire is shredded (and, in that case, nothing but a new tire or a spare will help) fix a flat should get you at least to a tire repair shop. Both of these tires had puncture, one of them pretty large (big screw went into the tire).

I know some people hate that stuff, but, I've had really good luck with it.

How much was the whole set? Did you buy it all together?

Its a long story but I got the complete tyre/alloy set for £1K. Retail is somewhere north of £2.5k in UK.
The reason I got the deal was because the dealer I bought the car from, BMW UK and HQ all said it came with 20" RF. Whereas as we all now know there are no such tyres.
