Seems like they have fixed it to work on the N63tu.

New member to this forum. I picked up a 2014 50i (M Sport, MW, Mocha Dakota, DHP, DVD, etc.) with very low miles for a great deal from Illinois a few months back and had it shipped out here to So Cal.

Worked with Ben and got ACS springs, spacers (15/20) and the AC Schnitzer exhaust (which is awesome). (I'm getting OptiCoat soon so will post pics later).

Anyhow, on this topic, I went with Race Chip and drove it around for a week or so on the base setting S2=B. Admittedly, didn't feel different than stock, which is already a beast.

Then I bumped it to C, drove it a couple of weeks, then went to D, drove it around a few weeks, and finally, went to E last week. Frankly, it drives the same as it does with no RC installed. I've had to take it into the dealer a few times and each time I put the dummy plug on and I do not notice any difference between having the RC installed or not, and no difference between any of the settings. I'm considering the BMS, although Ben's experience is he saw no boost on his 6 series with the N63Tu.

How about when you drive in Eco Pro mode? My car was very sluggish before in Eco Pro, but with Race Chip it no longer an issue.

I have not tried driving the car in Eco Mode since installing the chip. I rarely do so. However, I'll give it another try this week when I get the car back. (Off topic, they gave me a 428 GC as loaner; can't stand the way the newer, smaller cars steer and handle -- my e92 has that stiff steering and handling that I love).

It seems anecdotally that some people experience tangible performance boost with the RC, some don't -- and so, too, with the BMS piggyback. I'd prefer not to have to shell out $2500 for the Dinan, of which there is sparse feedback on the various forum postings. The car is fast enough stock, but hey, why are we all here if we didn't want to amp it up a bit more.

I really don't understand how these tune chips are that inconsistent. Did something change in the assembly parts that we were unaware of? Did us guys with older chips get the working versions? I got mine back in 2014 when I wrote up the thread for it. To this day, it's been nothing but a champ. I've owned both chips... Both changed the 50i for the better, but I preferred the RC Ultimate over the BMS stage 1 because it just was better in terms of performance and reduction of throttle lag.

@opasha , I have checked with RaceChip USA, they said nothing was changed. And I believe Droptopp is using the latest version.

IMHO it is not the chips fault. BMS has used both MAF control and Tmap control on the N63TU. Neither worked 100% on all N63TU's. My n63tu did not add any boost with the Tmap style. MAF style worked great. I think the DME can come with either control strategy from the factory. So you have to test whichever you choose to se if it works. If it doesn't , change the chip strategy.

This is indeed so bizarre. After reading so many threads on how it doesn't work, I was starting to believe that I was just imagining it was working since I spent money, so I took it off and drove it for a while. I immediately notice the lower response, especially the super sluggish Eco Pro mode. Plugging it back in, I noticed improved response, and sluggish Eco Pro mode was gone.

I'm going to test it out again this week on Eco Pro to see if there are differences. Also, I picked up a CEL this past weekend after switching to "E" last week. Not sure if it's related, and will find out tomorrow, but that would may at least indicate it may have some effect. Ben and I will look at the wiring again this week to double check the connections. I'm probably going to order the BMS and try it out as well.

In regards to your CEL, how quickly did it turn on? Sometimes with all the removal of parts to get access to the TMAP location, some people can forget to plug back in the MAF sensors in the middle compartment where the airflow tubes are, which can cause a CEL even though the car will drive without Drivetrain Malfunction; it happened to me once when I completely forgot about it and noticed it immediately after a few miles of driving.

We installed the RC on April 28. I ramped it up to E last Thursday and I noticed the CEL on Saturday. Frankly, it could have been there earlier. However, I did not notice any change whatsoever in the car's driving dynamics before and after the CEL. It's in for service now (liftgate notification keeps coming on, programming a second key), so I will find out when I pick it up. I assume they will notice that Ben coded some of the neat features in for me too.

fwoo54 they may notice the coding, but that shouldn't refrain them from fixing the liftgate notification issue.
Most likely they will reset the firmware and see if it comes back.
Let's figure out the RC when you are coming by.

Just got the RC ultimate, any gotchas for installation? They say it takes 15 minutes, but I've seen a couple threads around here where they say it takes muuuuch longer. Any personal experiences to share?

And what is the dummy plug for trips to the dealer?

The RC installation on the 50i is not complicated, but it is not a 15 minute job either. Follow RGSports installation instructions and you'll be fine. Some things that caught me by surprise:

1.) Even after removing all the bolts, it takes a good bit of upward pressure to remove the lower air box. Apply pressure at the forward most left and right corners.

2.) Reaching/squeezing the plug on the passenger side can be a bit of a struggle.

Take your time an make the installation neat. I zip tied the cables to existing cables and hid them where I could. Also, you might as well set the RC to setting "C" before you even begin.

The dummy plug is used in place of the RC "brain" to return the vehicle to stock performance. If you leave it in the vehicle, a dealership can still see it and will know you have a piggyback tune. I always remove mine completely for any service that involves opening the hood.

Hi folks, since photobucket has removed all of opasha's install pics, does anyone have any to share? For the 50i, I am assuming I am NOT following BMS directions of plugging them into the MAF sensors on the side, and need to find MAP sensors which are hidden somewhere and the cover needs to come off. Any help will be appreciated. I'll be happy to post pics again as I go through the process.

Steve's got the directions but you have to remove the intake. The plugs are beneath the two liquid intercoolers

You can follow the DIY that I made for F85/F86 X5M/X6M.
It is very similar.
