Question about Code 9610 "Port of Exit"

Long time lurker, been reading the threads on these forums to keep me occupied after I ordered a new F16 xDrive40d in December and am in need of some clarification (which may seem a bit obsessive but here goes)

Bear with me, some background,

The car is destined for the UK so I don't get the luxury of tracking it on MyBMW but I have been following the "manual" guides as others have mentioned and by using the VIN have managed to

- Track its build completion to 11th Jan
- Had code 9000 Departed plant on 12th Jan

The website https://www.2wglobal.com/ doesn't seem to have the VIN as a Cargo ID so I estimated it would be on either a ship leaving the 12th Jan called "INTEGRITY" or one leaving the 19th Jan called "BOHEME"

Background over, here's the question,

The code given to me by BMW Genius is that as of 31/01/2017 the Code is 9610 "Port of Exit" with an estimated delivery of 14/02/2017

My confusion is that if "Port of Exit" is considered Charleston, then no way is that car getting to Southampton (UK), getting all the work done then onto dealer for delivery on 14th Feb.

I heard that all BMWs (destined for EU) from Spartanburg head to Bemerhaven in Germany first then get the customs done before shipping out. My question is then :-

Is Port of Exit considered to be Bemerhaven in this case ? - Does anyone have any experience in this and has tracked their cars to find that being the case ?

Note: Both Ships mentioned above have arrived in Bemerhaven in or around 31st Jan and then left to go to other stops first before then arrive in Southampton on 4th and 7th.

Thanks in advance

Yes, in this case Port of Exit code will be Bremerhaven.

And don't forget, once at Southampton, the car doesn't go to dealer, it goes from port to BMW-GB at Thorne in Yorkshire, and then from there it gets sent to dealership.

And you did well, get a car so quickly if only ordered in Dec!! Your dealer must have had a build slot available just before specification lock down!!

Yep agree how quickly your car was built
My order was placed on 22 December delivery end of March
I was told by the dealer that once the car has arrived into the country (Southampton) then it can be registered. I need it done before 1st April.

Thanks guys, the push was indeed the 1st April registration deadline, and I didn't realize I was lucky with the allocation, so that's something I guess.

Appreciate the input.

Just had a txt to say that mine has been built and has left the factory and is on its way to UK..!!
Wasn't due to start production until beginning of next week, so looks like I may be picking it up at least a week early with any luck

Lets hope mine may also be a week earlier
If this happens then mine should be built this week and maybe on the same boat?

Looks like next boat is due to depart Charleston on 9th Feb, so I'm guessing mine will be on that. Due at Bremerhaven on 24th Feb, and Southampton on 1st Mar.

Perhaps you need to go online and ask the BMW Genius on the BMW website to see if they can tell you your current code status.

Next boat after that departs Charleston on 12th Feb, with arrival at Southampton on 26th Feb and then Bremerhaven on 2nd March.

Not sure if UK cars have to go to Germany first before UK, which may mean neither will be on that boat, unless they stick on cars from there, back on a car transporter and bring them over that way, as they would from a German factory?

My dealer has said that all X5's going to the UK have to go to Germany first before Southampton to be quality checked. So there is a slight delay I'm afraid

Good news on your order, I found today that it takes longer than a few days for a car to be on a boat after it reaches Departed plant status.

As of today, my car is "At Sea" (9620) with a delivery date to dealer set for 14th Feb.

This means that it was not on INTEGRITY as I first thought (that's docked in Southampton now since 2:14am today)

Hazarding a guess its on BOHEME which arrives on 7th Feb (making delivery of 14th Feb meaningful)

-------------

What I learnt from the above :-

- 9610 Port of Exit is indeed Bremerhaven (Thanks GeeRam for that confirmation) I guess they consider EU cars going from Charleston to Bremerhaven as internal post

- Car had a Departed Plant (9000) on 12th Jan and BOHEME left Charleston on 19th Jan so that gives you an idea of the time it takes from depart plant to being on a ship roughly.

This is the spec I got btw

BMW X6 xDrive40d M Sport (Space Grey / Black Dakota leather)

Standard UK spec + The below

2VF Adaptive M Suspension
22P 20" 469m Jet Black Wheels
3AG Backup Camera
4B9 Int.trim Finishers Alum.high Finish
420 Sun Protection Glazing
5DL Surround View
6CP Apple Carplay Preparation
6NW Telephony With Wireless Charging
6WB Multifunctional Instrument Display
6WD Wifi Hotspot

Ordered the M Performance grilles and the M performance front splitter to be installed on the car before pickup.

In that case.....

If yours isn't on same boat as mine, the next boat that goes Charleston-Bremerhaven-Southampton isn't due to leave Charleston until 22nd Feb, arriving Bremerhaven on 14th March and Southampton on 16th March.

Get online and check with BMW Genius, if yours has already started being built this weekend, it may make the same boat?

Sounds like a great spec X6.
Look forward to seeing some pictures soon and maybe a meet with Geeram and I?

Yes, when I looked at the shipping schedules, I had assumed it would be on the BOHEME given the dates you stated.
Although the railroad tracks go straight into the BMW plant, the port of Charleston is still more than 200 miles from the factory, so, its not going to be on a boat the day or day after it cleared production completed.

That's why I'm assuming mine will be on the RESOLVE departing on the 9th Feb.

Well, yes, sort of....

I think it's to do with rules around imports etc., whereby the X3/X5 being made in the USA would likely be subject to a different set of regs and level of taxation as a USA import, so by shipping via 'internal post' to Germany for 'quality control checks' prior to despatch, it will likely get classified as an import from BMW-Germany, and thus subject to EU single market regs etc.
Never looked at the BMW stickers on a UK X5 to see what is stated as country of origin...?
USA or Germany I wonder....??

As of today Monday 6th Feb my car is 9630 - Port of Entry

This is baffling (in a nice way) as I now believe my car must have been on the first ship INTEGRITY (currently on its way to Baltimore from Southampton) and not BOHEME which is still currently moored in Zebrugge and not due to hit Southampton till tomorrow.

Looks like the status updates are delayed somewhat.

That's pretty good considering the Production complete date was 11th Jan and the ship left on 12th Jan, so they dont mess about over there in the US

I BET!

I went onto BMW Genius today and I am at status 1200 - scheduled for production.

What was the time period between status 1200 to 9650 so that I have an idea how long I have left?

Oh dear!
Though saying that week 7 (w/c 12/02/17) is production and given a week for production is probably 2 weeks before departing the factory.
According to Thawle's timings it should take 4 weeks from departing the factory to arriving in this country which will be as the scheduled week 13.
So sounds as though I'm on track and will be able to get the car registered before 1st April.
Am I getting impatient - you bet I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The car has arrived this morning at my dealers (9th Feb) but is still wearing the transport "stuff", so will be taking proper photos once the M performance grilles and splitter have been installed and it's ready for collection.
