Weatherstripping Under Hood?

I've noticed that my car ('17) has weatherstripping under the hood on the passenger side only. Runs about half the length of the hood. Is this standard? Unclear to me why it would be on the passenger side only.

I remember when I had the Dinan S1 installed, they mentioned something about weatherproofing something, but I don't see any electronics in this area.

Anyone have any idea...?

Considering how crude that piece looks in the pic I am wondering if thats something that should have been removed during pre delivery inspection?

My 2016 does not have that on either side.

Agreed, very crude piece. I had the same thought. But I picked the car up in South Carolina, so it never shipped... I assume they would not have prepared it for shipping to drive it down the street, but could be wrong.

Mine has the same thing, and I was wondering if it's even supposed to be there. I asked the dealer when I took it in for the break in service, and they said it was supposed to. It's definitely really crude and sticks out with the hood closed. It definitely doesn't seem right.

That is insulation that Dinan added if you have a stage 1 or stage 2.
The reason being, under that cowl, lie the few thousand dollars worth BMW ECU.
Dinan takes extra precautionary even though BMW already water proof the connectors since the 11/13 production date.

Thanks for confirming... I expected it might be related to that. Thanks for clearing this up!

As crude as it looks, I guess I'll leave it in place...

Yes that is required as part of the Dinan tune installation. There should also be very thick strips underneath the hood near close to the wipers when it's closed.
