X5dforme. Can you please update us on status of your order? Finally are you getting TJA? Anything new?

Have a 328d wagon on order that will be here end of Dec. Also, X5d is not available to order yet. No TJA is available on any USA bound BMW. Active Cruise will all stop&go for US market. If the Active cruise will be available on the Diesel I will get it. It was nevery avaiable on the E70 Diesel so we will have to wait and see if we will see it as an option on the F15.

Canada Pricing Guide (Oct) , 5AT is available for 35d. Hence should be available in US.
Note: both Canada & UDA do NOT get TJA.

I was reading the Motor Trend First Look article on the 2014 X5. They mention the TJA will be coming in December.

The SUV's list of standard and available features also grows, with new safety features like the new Active Driving Assistant Package, Traffic Jam Assistant, and next-gen BMW Parking Assistant, which can automatically park the car in a selected space. Traffic Jam Assistant, which will be added to the Active Driving Assistant Package starting in December, maintains a safe following distance with help from the ACC Stop & Go feature and automatically steers the car to keep it in the center of the lane at speeds up to 25 mph. Other classic BMW tech features like BMW Night Vision and Surround View camera are also available, and the standard full-color head-up display has been upgraded to project phone contacts and entertainment info within the driver's line of sight.

Unfortunately that Motor Trend piece came out before BMW issued their notification that the availability of the TJA feature is indefinitely postponed in the US. The delay here is generally presumed to be due to legal/liability issues. However, because it will be available on cars sold outside the US, there may be a way to hack into a US car's computer to activate this feature

Heck, we can't even get our remote fobs to close the trunk door. TJA is probably causing BMWUSA legal sleepless nights.

First series with TJA go in production as of tomorrow. After waiting almost 6 months ( i ordered in June) my car finally goes into production this week. Then another 4-6 weeks to get it in Belgium.

Not my longest wait: when I ordered a MB ML back in 2007, it took 9 months to get delivered...

Hello EU001939,
You started this nice thread. You see, the benefits of living in Europe.
If you check the VIN, you can see pictures and every option and car specs.
Enjoy, you will love it.

Mine too. Specifically held it back for TJA, hope its worth it. Wonder if it's pressure or heat sensitive on the steering wheel. Apparently you need at least 2 fingers on the wheel for it to work. How long before someone wraps a baby bottle warmer round the wheel, then tries to have a kip on the back seat lol! Like the infamous urban myth about the winnebago owner who thought cruise control didn't require a driver... Didn't end well

In the U.S.A. here and after getting two different answers regarding the availability of Traffic Jam Assistant on an X5 (one said they could start ordering Dec 9 2013 and the other said not until April 2014), I e-mailed BMWUSA Customer Relations and Service. Their reply is below:

"We apologize for any confusion regarding the availability of the Traffic Jam Assistant feature. Unfortunately, this feature is not available on the 2014 X5. We apologize for any dissatisfaction this may cause."

NOT GOOD NEWS!!

Does anyone have any more details???

Eugh. Stupid US legal BS. One more feature the rest of the world gets and we can't.

Thankfully we get those hideous orange side reflectors though - so at least we're safer than everyone else :|

It is the US and Canada legal environment.
In perspective, F15 cost is cheapest in US, rising in Canada, most expensive in Europe and Asia, almost double sometimes. Australia gets few really limited on features, with min 50% higher price, buyers there are dedicated. My reason for choosing F15 was Cayenne has so few cameras.

Probably, true as this BMW position has been maintained for about 6 weeks or so now. Previously they stated that it will be offered in 5 series in Nov and F15 in Dec. In Canada its part of the Driving Assistant plus, but so far absent!! If someone has it in NA, I would think that they would share it. If you have a current VIN check to see if latest build has it, likely not. But do expect to see it in the European builds. Code for TJA is 5AR. NA builds are KR63.

Last edited by barcelona; 12-05-2013 at 06:56 AM.. Reason: Just checked Canada website has TJA feature. Is it accurate and if so when ??

This comes directly from BMW pkod, which is an intranet site. Unfortunately. No traffic jam assist in the US anytime soon.

2014 F15 X5 Update to Available Options - 08/12/2013

Please note that contrary to previous communication on 2014 F15 X5 PKoD videos and Start of Communication, the following options and functionality will not be available on the F15 for the US market:

- Traffic Jam Assistant (option 5AR)
- Power closing of the tailgate using the key fob

Park Assistant (option 5DP) was previously communicated as an available option at launch but will be delayed until SOP 12/13.

Please note a new ordering rule will come into effect as of SOP 11/13 that requires Premium Package (ZPP) to be ordered when ordering an Interior Design Package (ZDI or ZMD).

Does anyone whether the TJA is a hardware-based option or if can it simply be enabled via a software mod?

^ Seems like with AC stop and go, lane departure warning, and park assist, all the hardware should be in place....

That's what I was thinking - and the non-us online build tools don't seem to add an extra cost for the TJA when you order all of that. Hoping some hacker will figure this out and the dynamic LED headlights!

Cayenne has ACC, Lane change assist, Park Assist ( similar to BMW PDC) & Reverse camera. Source Porsche hard cover brochure pg 154 & 155. Hence no Surround view. That was as per August 2013. Perhaps there may be changes. As we know BMW has changed TJA for the US market.
