Same reason I don't understand why people lust after American muscle when they have diesel manual AWD wagons available. The grass is always greener... although I guess neither of these options are very green.

You honestly think the Dodge Demon, with an optional passenger seat, drag radials, a trans-brake, and 800+hp is trying to be a well-rounded car? This forum gets more priceless by the day...

Manual diesel awd wagons are usually a compromise for economy, practicality and reliability. (I drive a manual, diesel volvo xc70 as a daily....)
Thats a choice from the head, not from the heart.
With cars like this demon, nothing originated in the head, it all came out of someones heart.

BTW a diesel car only is less green regarding NOx emissions although that changes fast because fuel efficient petrol cars also have worse NOx emissions (as high NOx emissions are a byproduct of efficient combustion), but the CO2 emissions are way less than especially US V8 petrol blocks.
Also the more modern diesel cars (for instance the current 5 series) now even come with NOx emission reduction systems like adblue (like some trucks have), so technology advances rapidly in that field.
NOx emissions are usually only a problem in cities as NOx gets converted really fast into nitrogen and oxygen (its an unstable molecule) within a few hundred feet of the road. Fine particle matter emissions are becoming less of a problem since dpf filters have been standard for 10 years or so.

People have to find something to bash on the American cars now since they're taking down exotics and European cars on road courses left and right for much less of a price.

A car is a car and a truck is a truck, etc. Some do certain things better than others in their perspective class.

I love this. in a world where everything is bubble wrapped to keep people safe, this is beautiful. just stupid in it's perfection.

it wont steer, but who cares?! you want to steer, get a GTR or 911. this is a beast. much love.

The demon is a great car but as car and driver pointed out . . . If you turn the steering wheel it voids the warranty.

I wholeheartedly agree. And Demon and Hellcat are two of the coolest cars on sale today. A swan song to internal combustion greatness...

You'd be surprised by the handling of a hellcat. so I assume the same applies to the demon. I drove a hellcat at Bondurant... was amazed at how fun it was.

Clueless...I've been on the track with a hellcat and it was keeping up with (or beating) all the other race spec street cars (Porsches, Vettes, BMWs, etc). I was shocked.

Even if that’s true, it’s going to chew though brakes, pads, clutch and consumables faster and use a lot more gas to do the same thing. Being heavier it takes more tires, more anti-sway, more everything to keep it stable. In the case of the demon, I’d think a Tesla would be the better choice for instant acceleration, which seems to be the only point of the demon.

That said, options for a track-able American sedan are rapidly becoming limited.

You can remove American. Outside of the F80 and C63, not many choices for a trackable sedan. The Alfa 4Q would count if it would just hold together.

SO?! If you're worried about that, go drive a Honda Odyssey!

It is some crazy engineering to make a porker like the Challenger a track worthy car and the fastest 0-60 production car in the world (Demon).
