Instructions for installing lower front grills

Once again great forum, based on the info here I ordered a 2015 X5 35i M Sport. After seeing the threads here I decided to order the "Open" style lower air vents with the splitter as the Euro models have. Is anyone aware of step by step instructions on how to change these out? Thank you in advance for your help.

It should be straight forward for the 35i.

I think the Mod can put the DIY thread as a sticky, makes it easier to find.

Thank you for your replies and the great write up by R33. I consider myself fairly mechanically inclined however I want to be sure once I get into this project I am able to complete. The directions provided don't address changing the solid lower grills for the open ones. Is this fairly easy to do? Any tricks? Thanks again for all of your comments !!

In my humble experience, and although I didn't change the closed grills to open ones, I think you should have no issues on the 35i.

Once you have the wheel liner removed you should have clear access to the tabs that secure the closed grills. From there it should be straightforward to remove the existing grills and replace with the open ones.

Note that on the 35d this is easy for the driver side (unfettered access to the existing grill) but a nightmare on the passenger side as the AdBlue tank is in front of the grill and thus you cannot easily access this area.

R33 helped me with thus stuff, so big props to him.

As @mrwilby mentioned, it is fairly easy on the 35i as you have plenty of space to see the tabs holding the grill from behind the bumper.
The trick is, know where the tabs are, and put your thumb on it from the front and press. Except on the 2 outer tabs, you need to reach in from the front opening, pull the tab outward with your fingers while pushing the grill inward with your thumb.

Yes, but you have to change to AC Schnitzer front bumper.
