I find that all 3 models of Escort GPS units that I owned (9500ix, Passport Max, Passport Max 2) offer about the same protection. Perhaps the newer units are supposedly better, but it's not necessary as I never got a ticket with the 9500ix over the few years that I had it. The main difference between 9500ix and Passport Max is the entire design of the unit is new, the display is multi-colored, but functionality wise it's pretty much the same. I find myself setting it up once initially and then never touch it again. Passport Max and Passport Max 2 are exactly the same except Passport Max 2 no longer needs the special chord and instead connects to your phone through bluetooth. I actually don't find the functionality useful as I never bother to open the app on my phone. I also don't find Escort Live useful. You're better off using Waze on your phone if you want crowd-sourced information. It all depends on if laser is used in your area. If it is then you do need to rely on crowd-sourced info. If I had to recommend a unit based on best value it's the 9500ix. You can probably get one on Ebay for quite cheap and it's going to serve its purpose which is to keep you from getting a radar ticket. I personally am pretty into gadgets so I do have the Passport 2 which is the latest and greatest, and that's fine as well, but it's more expensive and serves the same purpose. All of them are excellent, just make sure it has GPS. As far as mounting goes, I use Blendmount. For my X6 the correct mount is BMW-006. Blendmount actually offers a kit that allows you to tap into your mirror for power. That's not what I use though. I have my car audio installer direct-wire the radar detector. One problem if you decide to use Escort Live with the cord is you have to use that cord to power the detector, so you can't direct-wire or use a mirror-tap. |

Looks great man...I too usually prefer a de-badged look, but the contrast with the red is unique for sure. Nicely modded X5, well done.

I think he bumped the fronts up to 285s, from the OE 275/40/20? Rears should be 315/35/20.
