Advancing Song on Steering Wheel

Is there a way to advance the song on the steering wheel other than pushing the scroll wheel and choosing a song? Every other car I've owned had a simple back and forward button on the steering wheel similar to the button on the stereo console.

Also, does the song title every display on the large LCD screen on the dash, or only in the instrument cluster?

The previous generation X5 had the ability to do so but not on the F15.. at least I haven't figured out how. Also you should be able to see the playlist or list of songs on the drive screen. Go to the media button and then click on "now playing" icon.

If you have the heads up display it shows current playing song and +/- 1 songs while using the scroll wheel on the steering wheel.

With the heads up it only shows on the heads up display and no where else. Whats playing does show on the center stack as expected.

is this something that can be coded? It would be sweet if you could use the touchpad and swipe forward to advance songs.....

The new Bimmer steering suck on this change, but for me the scroll works perfectly for cruise control. However You will get used to it after a while.

Maybe I am not understanding exactly what you are asking for Jugdish, but I will try to explain it more in detail... As I mentioned earlier... You are able to see the song title list on the iDrive screen... Go to "Media" button near your iDrive knob, click on the media source (your phone or MP3 player), then click on "Now playing" and you will have a list of your songs showing to scroll and select at will.

Isn't he asking if you can fast forward the song via the steering wheel?
Can you?

No.. you can only scroll and push the dial on the steering wheel.. HUD on it will show in head up display.. HUD off or no HUD option and it will show in the instrument cluster.

He also asked

Thanks all for the replies.... I found the best compromise is to split screen and keep the music on the left and nav on the right. I can then advance song with the control pad device.

I also wish there was an advance one track button on the steering wheel. the roll and push thing can get tiring. I often times just use the arrows by the cd insert slot.

I just learned to use my right hand and use the dial at >| icon and just hit the dial on console to go next song, I rarely go previous so the selector stays in >| icon all the time.

I really like HUD because when I am in MAP or when I am browsing through songs in another folder, I can just use HUD and switch songs, I can also sneak past the songs I don't like without my wife seeing that I am skipping songs through HUD. I just wish we could actually browse folders through HUD, but that would be too distracting I guess.
