Thanks for posting. So from what it sounds like, using this mod will render the snap-in cradle useless as it uses that connection, correct? Just want to confirm.

Were the instructions from the F30 forum fairly on point in regards to the X5?

Reuse the connector from the cradle cable behind the HU - it can be disassembled.

I thought about that. My only concern was snaking it through and if it was going to be bundled with a bunch of other wires going through the center console. Just tentatively sounded miserable.
Either way this hurricane has me off work till Tuesday so I've got some time to put on my eibachs and do this mod. Just need to find a DIY for removing the NBT.

Yes it will render the cradle useless. I've removed mine a few months back to add some more console space. As stated above I may try and just snake it through.

As far as the F30 threads not really. They all talk about just adding a random usb plug to a cut out in the glove box or snake it between some trim pieces and hook to a phone mount which is not what we're doing but basically the same idea.

Ok I'm giving it a go today. Found some generic TIS removal Guide so we'll see how it does. Looks pretty easy with just clips and 4 T20s.

I was able to quickly confirm the cable that was plugged into the telephone cradle does NOT fit the new usb either so I'll just be dremeling one of the teeth down to get it to fit securely. I'll post pics and a DIY after I'm done. Fingers crossed. Not had much luck this past week with my DIY projects lol

F my face why would this be easy. Of course nothing is labeled on this unit like it is on the F30. And nothing seems to match the color coding. The cable in the glove box is blue with 4 prongs and the only "blue" one plugged in has 1 prong and doesn't match.

Well y'all gonna love this. The mod is not possible for me. At least not in its current form. The new trim piece will not fit with the existing design of the NBT. See picture. The part of the USB port that extends out the back hits the NBT unit. This is absurd that I got this far. Got it actually to charge my phone and was putting it all back together. I was struggling to get the cable to fit but decided whatever I'll just shove it in a corner and make this work. Only to find out I was F'd before I even began.

I would suspect this mod is actually only doable if you have a 2017 and just don't have enhanced usb with the second USB port. The cutout or new design to the new NBT must allow for this trim piece to be installed.

Ok after I cooled down after my frustration I decided not to give you so I'm going to make an actually DIY thread that's concise and clear.
