X5 to get larger side view mirrors
BMW USA called me today to get my feedback on my new 2016 X5. When asked for things they could improve I mentioned the side view mirrors were too small imo and he said yes that's a common complaint and larger side view mirrors on the next X5 is a done deal.

Interesting as I've just pulled the trigger on a 2016 M50D model and when looking it over in the showroom I felt the same. I thought it was just me but he E70 MSport ones even seemed huge by comparison.

The mirrors are terrible. I guess BMW figures we don't need to see now that we have blind spot warnings
I sure hope they change them. |

I would say keep the Msport lines the way they are in terms of size and just add the Euro wide angel view mirrors to help with the blind spots.. then make the Lux and Xlines as big as they want it to be... I just don't want a Dumbo style ears on my X5...

Agree with Kzang and iconoclast, but the issue isn't with BMW. I'm sure it's some stupid federal govt regulation preventing the use of aspherical mirrors in the US, a la the same reason why we have such poor headlights vs E-code. No manufacturer would choose to have additional country-specific SKUs if they can avoid it.
Look at the new Ford Focus... I think the stock mirrors include a stick-on wide angle mini-mirror at the top left portion of the housing vs just using aspherical glass.

Yep...much better. I've got these EU-spec mirrors on my A4, made a HUGE difference.

i've put them on every vehicle i owned along with e-code headlights (except on the f15 so far) and they are one of the first upgrades and must-have parts.

Speaking of blind spot warnings... Those things could be a little brighter.

one of the things Audi takes into consideration. you can adjust the brightness of their side-warning according to your preference or window tint.

When you are buying those used BMW parts from east Europe its very likely that you feed the criminal business that steels parts from cars in western Europe. They have stolen my rims twice and mirrors once.

I can live with the standard mirrors at this time and the blind spot warning lights up just enough.

I just set my mirrors for my blind spot and tilt my head a little when I need to see further back.
