Usually i set the lowest temperature manually to 16 degrees (62F) and it will immediately come out with cold air.

Do you have the center vent dials set to all the way blue (down)? This controls how much outside air is mixing with the system and has a big impact on temperature.

No issues with my former F15 35i and now current F85 X5M. In fact i rarely ever have the fan speed above 2 in my car unless its right when i get in during a hot day.

I've never had an issue with either my '14 X5d with ventilated seats or my '16 X5d without ventilated seats, but then again I live in the temperate climate state of Washington (which is similar in many respects to the climate in Germany). I have noticed, however, that both our Toyota Prius and our Mazda CX-5 have significantly better A/C systems.

Honestly, I wish it were a simple fix as many of you have suggested. Believe me, I have tried all of the simple things.

Here is what I do know, I left the X3 outside last night. It was already 87 degrees when I got in it this morning. I started it up and it took less than 30 seconds to start blowing cold air. It cooled down so fast that I had to lower the fan speed to Auto 3. In my X5 I have to drive around with it on max AC all the time.

I've got a solid, 10+ year, relationship with my service advisor so I am confident that they will figure out what is wrong with it. I'll post an update when I hear from the dealership probably later today.

This isn't a temp issue. It is an air volume problem.

I thought the same thing here in FL as there always felt like heat hitting me in the chest. After some experimenting in different conditions, etc. I discovered when it's sunny, it's the reflective heat come off the black part of the dashboard, the section from the display to the windshield. If you put your hand there you can just feel the heat coming off of there. It's takes a LONG time for that to go away. On cloudy days I've actually have had to bump it from 68 to 70. I think I may look into some tint at good UV protection but next to no darkness.

Optherion - so what is the update? You have a brand new, high end X5 under full warranty - surely your dealer has this sorted by now?

Same here. I think the A/C on the X5 is very weak.

Its a 2017 X5 50i V8 loaded. Hell; should have bought X5m but thats another story.

The air conditioning takes a HOUR to cool down the car. Located in Arizona and today is 108 degrees. Car has NEVER cooled down all day. After a hour in the car, I'm still sweating. I have the damn air conditioned ventilated whatever seats. They suck. Don't buy them; save your money guys. Car is Silver. Limo tint all around. I used a sun shade. I'm out of ideas and its been serviced 3 times for the AC not getting cold.

Does anyone else with the V8 have issues with their cooling system or suggestions that live in hot climates? Car going in for service again. By far the worst AC of any car I have ever owned. The sad part of everything is the AC just absolutely doesn't cool the car down when outside temp is 90+ The uber driver picked me up in a black corolla from the dealer since they had no rental cars and I about froze my ass off in the backseat. Trying to get suggestions here as Im ready to get rid of this thing after 5 months.
Previously owned an F15 50i, since the climate here is hot 10 out of the 12 months, I can tell you the A/C is good, but not very good. Sometimes during summer (around 48 degrees C, 120 F), it would completely block - when at max the air is blocked and it feels as if something is standing in the way. At other times it would be a freezer.

I had it checked a few times at the dealer but they say there is nothing wrong with it. I think it has to do with the way the A/C is designed, which is stupid for a premium SUV.

Agreed, I think it sucks. I'll try unchecking the sync, etc

My gripes, ventilated seats could blow more air on the top setting. The fan is noisy. can't permently lock the rear system - kids kick the buttons. And someone tell me, why would I ever need the temp gauge set 65 and have the temp knobs on the dash turned to red/hot?? Why can't the system just take outside temp, inside temp and blow the correct air temp to gets the car to the temp I ask for?

northeast heat wave going on sunny and 90+. x5 air conditioner was slow to cool things off, took about 10-15 min before it was comfortable inside, including ventilated seats which provide a very minor level of relief. my 2007 ram hemi typically took under 5 min to blow arctic chill levels of cold air. def a shortcoming and I can't imagine living in AZ without a strong AC.

Have you played with the syncing with one temperature for passenger and rear? I know when mine is set individually the air volume and fan speed are very low. If I push the sync button all that changes.

was 90+ in new york/long island yesterday (and today.. and tomorrow)
car was parked in the sun, so i had to use the max a/c button and after a few minutes of driving it cooled the car down to a decent temp. My kids were complaining about being cold in the back seat.. so i set everything to 70 in the car.
so not too.. bad.. but i do agree with the issue of the heat kicking off of the black part of the dashboard... i think the car can benefit from getting the windshield tinted.

I've used SunteK CXP80 (on my M4) and LLumar Air80 (on my X5). On paper they have similar performance, but I think the Suntek has a bluer tint to it when you are looking through it and that the LLumar appears clearer when installed. I also think that in the real world that the LLumar performs better than the Suntek. So much so that I have considered having the Suntek removed and LLumar installed on my M4.

3M makes a CR90 whose specifications on paper are worse than Suntek or LLumar, but I have no first hand knowledge of the product since I have not used it.

I've only owned my X5 3-4 months. Up though a few days ago its been unseasonably cold here. Past few days in the 90's though and I had to park on the office garage roof away from other cars, so as not to get dinged.

Roof is full sun on my black X5.
I expected it to be hot. And it sure was. Almost full length moonroof doesnt help.

Opening the windows and letting the heat blow out helped.
The max AC mode is disappointing as the fan is so loud its not worth using it.
Turning the fan speed up higher rather than using max AC is easier on the ears and it seems to cool down just as fast.

Black seats, black car and full moon roof I never expected to be frozen out by the AC.

But I would agree with many of the comments in this thread that its a tad underpowered as to coolness. And its also true that the newer, more enviromentally friendly refrigerants . . . Suck

I'm bringing my car back to the dealer for a recurring PDC issue tomorrow and I'll see if they can check to see if its blowing as cold as it can.

Bottom line is black or dark cars are simply tough to cool. But highway speeds really help the systems effectiveness.

On my way home today it was 90 degrees and it was on max. When I pressed AC to shut max off the AC does not come automatically on again until I press the ac button again. Within about 2 min. I thought I was suffocating and then noticed ac was not lit. . . car cooled off pretty after I switched ac back on, but it could be colder.
