What's your winter rim/tire set up??

Hey guys,

I know it's still a little early but here in Canada winter wheel season starts in October. So i figured I better start digging into this a bit more in case I need to come up with a new plan.

I have a new set of rims/tires for summer so I was hoping to use my old existing 469 wheels with some winter tires but the sizing is a challenge for sure.

I am curious as to what everyone uses for a set up? Obviously, function is most important but as an enthusiast how it looks is right up there.

Thanks in advance,
Chad

Probably either Blizzak V2 275/40/20 square setup or Michelenne LAtitutde X-Ice 2 same size square setup

for staggered 20'' rims probably the only choice is Pirelli Snow and Ice but it's a rinflat tire (expensive)

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...odClar=M+Sport

My choice would have been Michelinne Latitutde X-Ice2 - tire rack has sale now for $736 for a set of 4 tires. You can ship it to border storage company and then pick it up. Still going to be cheaper than in Canada. Tho sometimes Costco has good deals too

Awesome info, thanks!

I was pricing out the Pirelli S&I and they are pricey. I'm thinking a set of PSI would cost the same as buying a whole new square set up since I need to buy rims then as well. Definitely not cheap but as most of us have found, you get what you pay for.

You ran the 315 out back with no issue on a 469?

Absolutely no problem, I just switched over from driving F-150's for the last 20 years, this X-drive had just as traction as they did. Now all they had was all-season tires, not dedicated snow tires. I bought a full set of rims and tires for summer and winter, both staggered. We had an average winter, 6- 10 inches a couple of times, some ice, typical Wisconsin winter.

Awesome man, appreciate the info. I definitely want to stay staggered if possible. Wisconsin winter is very similar to winter here. Seems like the Pirelli S&I is the way to go.

I plan to do the same on my 451's this winter. Have run All Season 19" the past two winters without issue. Most of the time winter here in Denver is just low temps, not that much snow on the roads for long periods. All seasons handle what snow we get just fine (knowing how to drive in snow helps also...)

My question is if people are running the staggered stock tire sizes for their winters tire set up?

275/40/20 & 315/35/20

May be a stupid question but has anyone runner a skinnier winter tire on the stock 20" rim?

I´ve been driving on the staggered setup you mention on my 20" 468M alloys for three winters now. Pirelli Run flat winter tires. No probs.

hi guys, I have a 2015 X6. Can I run 20" winter (275/40/r20) NON-staggered?

I currently have summer tires and rims that are staggered but found a pair of non-staggered 20" ...will these work for the X6?

Thanks

I don't see why not. But you should check wheel offsets to make sure they will fit. They will sit further inside the back wheel well, but this is cosmetic only and could be adjusted with spacers.

X5M stock winter wheel and tire package is a square tire setup, for example.

I just bought a set of 20” quad Essen wheels with 275/40/20 square setup all around. I am trying the new Yokohama blue earth snow tires. I’ll report back once I get a good feel for them.

Im looking for a set of 19" rims for my 50i to build a set of winters. PRobably will go with Michelin Xi Ice or Hakkapelleta R2.

Have been looking for 467 m sport wheels. Cant seem to find anything that is not trashed by prior owner. Oddly hard to find oem wheels for the x5.

Sorry for the short hijack. I had sent you PM regarding 467Ms. I may have a local buyer for them now, but if the deal falls through, let me know if you're still interested.

Hey guys just thought I'd give a quick update on what I went with and thoughts incase any one is still looking for winters.

I went with the Toyo GSi5 in stock staggered sizing mounted on factory 20" 469 rims.

I've had them on since October and I've driven in every possible winter condition up here in Canada. From ridiculous cold and dry, to warm, slushy and icy conditions. I've been really impressed by them. The traction in all conditions has been great and they are very confidence inspiring.

I opted not to go with RFT because I have BMW roadside assist and they can tow me where I need to go rather then drive on a punctured tire. The ride quality honestly might be better the the factory conti's and road noise is minimal but maybe slightly louder then factory.

Anyways I m happy with them and they were considerably cheaper then my other choice the Perelli Scorpion ice and snow. Hopes this helps anyone still looking.
