We were third in line at a stop sign, and when we went to accelerate, the car shifted into park. Every time I put into drive, it pops right back into park. Checked all the doors, hood hatches, shut car off, did virtually everything, and car was dead in the water. Had to have police direct traffic around us, and get towed to closest dealership.

We didn't buy this car at that dealer, so they didn't want to give us a loaner (apparently, we're only supposed to drive these within the radius of the dealer we purchased at), had to cancel a summer weekend away, and the car will not be repaired for at least a week.

Dealer says it needs a new megatronics unit, which of course isn't at the local parts distribution center.

3k miles on a $95k truck, and left for dead in the middle of the road. Im not happy.

Appreciate all the insight. All this said, if you had the choice, would you do it again? Thinking of getting a 2017 X5 50i

I have a first year 2014 X5 50i with 22,000 miles and trouble-free so far.
I'm really looking forward to the 2019 X5 G05 and the X7.

Good to know, thanks.

Unfortunately I can't wait for the 2019 model cause I need the space now.

Popping sound fm HVAC

I searched the forum and didn't see anyone reporting a similar problem.

When it rains and I have the HVAC system on, I hear a popping sound coming from the passenger area.

It doesn't happen during a car wash, only happens when it rains.

I took it to the dealer and since the sound couldn't be recreated they couldn't diagnose the problem.

They did look at some heater box on the passenger side footwell area but they said it looked fine.

Has anyone else had this issue?

i'll get the dealer to check in while in service but imo dealers are really bad at fixing things like this

I am just over 6300 miles on my 2016 X6 50i. Picked it up last November, so just under a year of ownership.

Just got my first "low engine oil" warning this past weekend.

Looks like I will have to stop by the dealership once a month for "top offs" like I used to have to do with my former 650...

Yep, the 50i eats up oil like a champ. I had to make several visits to the dealership for top-offs.

Yeah... a minor inconvenience, but annoying nonetheless

My 50i has not needed an extra drop between services. But I drive 23k miles per year, so services are more frequent time-wise. Not sure if that makes the difference.

Had my wife's 35i in for trailer hitch and wiring install. after they programmed the car, the rear left window will no longer auto-roll up like the rest of the windows from the driver window control panel. And the seat memory buttons no longer make the acknowledgement sound when you save the seat positions. Weird.

You know, now that you mention it, my seat memory doesn't make the audible acknowledgement either after my recent EGR software update on my 35d. Wonder what else is different?

Re-initialize your rear window,(hold the button up for 11 seconds).

I posted earlier this year about a rattling noise on my 2015 X5 3.5. The remedy for that was new turbo. Fast forward to last week: I took it back for a buzzing noise while accelerating with light throttle. CA calls to tell me that they can't find the issue so A BMW engineer is looking at my car. Engineer said to replace timing chain tensioner and all exhaust lifters?? All of this, and I barely have 10,500 miles. On the tensioner, I was thinking it would be just the external tensioner, but he said no, the whole front timing cover had to come off for replacement. NOT IMPRESSED with the cars reliability at all at this point.

Car had 16000km when i sold it.
Issues:
Antenna stopped working after 2000km - no radio. No sat radio
Panoramic roof not opening or not closing.
Rattling noise coming from under the steering wheel ---> changed the steering column sensor.
After that, the car pulled to the right like crazy. 4 Dealerships could not fix it.
Ambient lights stopped working.

I saw the 335i M performance while waiting for my car to get fixed and i ended up buying the 335. Sold the crappy x5.
I would not buy again.

2014 50i with 15k miles, the thing is a rattle fest. Love it otherwise. Dealer is trying to rid some of the noises mostly from tailgate area. We'll see...

Do you think it might be something loose or jumping around in the spare tire compartment area?
