Smile F15 X5 BMW M Performance Exhaust System

I Thought i will be the gitty pig and purchase the BMW M Performance Exhaust System for my 35I. when i purchase my 35i lux line i didn't want the M sport model but i wanted the roar sound from my exhaust. At one point i was looking to get a custom exhaust system for my 35I but came across the BMW M Performance Parts and seen the exhaust system in there for my 35I which i just purchase on the BMW USA website. I can't wait to get it and have it installed. I will most definitely leave comments on how it sounds once i get it.

Sioor,
What is the part number? I heard and read about it, but I couldn't find it in the parts catalog.
Also, picture when you get it please.

I have the M-Performance exhaust installed in my 35 M-sport. Here's some pics...understated...looks just like the stock tips...

I had my service center install it, so honestly couldn't tell you if its a full cat back or just an axle back.
Sound is a little fuller, similar to the M-Perf exhaust I had on my previous 335i...but this one is quieter inside (the X5 is probably better insulated than the 335).
Also got the stainless steel exhaust tips...which look just like the regular exhaust tips, so that was $1,000 well spent....sigh. However, the pipe changes from a round circle to the ovalish rectangle, instead of other brands where they slap a squarish tip over the round pipe (I'm looking at you Acura...)

Also, here's a link to a weirdly warped video of the exhaust sound...

Thanks for sharing! Couldn't view the clip on my iPhone though....will definitely watch it when I get home.

How do you like the new exhaust system so far? Did you notice major differences when you went full throttle, perhaps?

Is this the one that comes on the M Sport package or it is different?

this one is different from the M sport 35I although there has been no claims of this exhausts system providing gains in HP. But I'm pretty sure the sound is very different from the M-sport on the 35I level.

So the tips are the same as the Msport tips? Why did you need to pick up another set of tips then assuming the Msport ones could transfer over.

Katsu,
So the sound is different compared to the original one that came with the M-Sport Package?
Based on your pictures on your car and pictures on the parts catalog. It is only Axle back system.
Can you confirm that you don't have the exhaust flap on the right side anymore?

Sound is very different, and the point of the tips is that it comes with a "dummy" exhaust flap on the left side that still has a plug attached so the car doesnt throw any codes. Saw it on the X5 at the Chicago auto show.

I tried removed the spring that open and close the valve on my 35i. It sounds nicer, but I notice that I am loosing the low end. I wonder if that would be the case with the M Performance exhaust since there are no actual flap anymore.
I decided to reinstall the spring and I regain the low end power.

no additional HP, but I got a M Performance sticker, and those are good for 5 HP each! Sound is a little fuller, raspier, but not very droning. Subtle overall. But you can tell its different than a stock 35i exhaust...

sound is different...hard to describe, but hopefully my link to the video will help everyone hear for themselves and decide if its worth it. I'm not surprised its an axle back...$1250 sounds too cheap for a cat-back, especially a BMW branded one.

I don't want to sound picky or anything, but could you maybe post a video where you rev the engine a little to hear what the exhaust sounds like when the car actually goes/is driven?

Your car looked like it was just idling. Idling doesn't capture the full extent of an exhaust system's potential. Certain exhausts have a deep tone when rev'd or a very raspy tone when rev'd.

Just my curiosity and humble opinion in case others are actually interested in your exhaust system for themselves . Sounds quite nice, though. Very different from a stock 3.5i

No problem...you are correct, it was just idling...I'll try rev it and repost something. Anybody know a good video hosting site?

Awesome! Videobam: http://videobam.com/ and wikisend: http://www.wikisend.com/ are free, easy sites to upload videos, etc. Here's an article list for other sites including Wikisend: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/tech/...tes/50962104/1
