80K list or purchase price?

Never put anything down on a lease. If you want to put something "down" do multiple security deposits, not a down payment.

Ballpark with nothing down but the first month's payment? Somewhere between 1100 and 1200 per month would be the range I'd expect.

You're in the 1200/month range if you're buying at list. In the 1100 range if you max our the security deposits.

But, you surely can get a much better price if you shop around. Since you're in South Carolina, you may even want to consider leasing through an out of state dealer and doing Performance Center Delivery in nearby Spartanburg.

When you say "never put anything down on lease" what exactly you mean by that? I usually put a "down payment" that covers first month payment, sales taxes and license/fees. In my current lease of a $65k car that was around $3k. Is this what you call down payment?

Down payment refers to a chunk paid upfront to reduce the capital cost. Different concept from payments due at lease signing (which includes the items you mentioned).

The reason it makes no sense to put money down is because that money is gone if the car ever gets totaled. Money from insurance goes to BMW.

The better way to achieve a similar effect (ie,, lower monthly payment) is to pay security deposits at lease signing. These security deposits are fully refundable at lease end. Basically, in return for lending money to BMW, they lower the money factor on your lease. You can pay up to 7 months' worth of security deposits.

We got a x5d with msrp of 80 and selling price of 70. There is still room. Also got a check back form BMW CCA for 1k so we actually paid 69k. Just food for thought.
