Installing dashcam

Folks

I'm installing a Blackvue 550 2 channel dash camera. If you wire it to the battery it will record while the vehicle is off. Any recommendations which fuses I could tap into in the back right compartment? I need a constant battery source and an ignition only battery source.

As always. Thanks.

Yes, running it directly to the battery or a live fuse, it will always be on. There should be some tutorials in YouTube on how to find a live fuse you can tap to.

I'd recommend using Power Magic Pro along with your BlackVue Dashcam

I just ordered the BlackVue DR650GW-2CH. It seems that the BlackVue is one of the best options out there.

Thanks. I'm using the black magic as well. I plan on searching for fuses in a little bit.

It's a real shame there isn't an under dash 12v socket in the F15 as there is in the current F10/11's.

+1. I was disappointed as well... My 5 series has it and that socket would be perfect for the dashcam.

It says preorder. Any idea when it's supposed to ship?

Mine shipped the same day I ordered (July 18). I guess they may have run out of stock. This camera is the dual channel newest and best model they have for around $420. Not bad at all.

They seem very attentive to customer service. I would call them up (they are in Canada) and ask when new stock will become available.

Try 161 Red and 107 Yellow on a US spec 50i MSport. See photos.

ALL: the photo is correct. The numbers may be wrong.

The fuse holder is from amazon:

Did you find the passenger side fuse box (I have RHD), like you I thought undo the three thumbscrews under the glovebox and it would be there staring at you but it is not. Where did they hide it?

I wouldn't think so. Only using a piggyback fuse adapter to pickup a live from the fusebox to feed a 12v to 5v USB stepdown transformer. Very little different from using a cigarette lighter adapter but much much neater, especially as there is no hidden low level 12v socket like on other BMW's.

Dash Cam Hack Wish

For those with surround cameras (driver assist plus in the US), I wish there was a way to:

1) hack into existing cameras, and feed a small DVR recorder

2) or better yet, do the hack and feed the onboard media drive that holds (20GB??) plenty of data.

The cameras are there. The wires are there. The capture and display are there. They data storage is there. This would be more than a code as it would need a software patch, is my guess, but BMW should do it. Is there a way to petition them?

That would be awesome, another reason to get surround cameras, but I reckon the chances of that happening are virtually nil
