Rough multiplier from DD to DJ is 1.15 If you want some more weight reduction look at replacing 90Lbs of battery in the back with a single Braille Lithium at 21lbs.
Thanks, that is exactly what i wanted to do next - I'll look into Braille battery! Especially here at AZ smaller battery is never an issue.

As for BPC Stage 1 dyno graph on their website - I think it's way too conservative. Here's mine on DD, but only on 91 octane unfortunately (This is tune that Bob did for 93 octane). It's hard to compare DD vs Dynojet - but I think I'm about there on x5m stock levels if you convert DD numbers to Dynojet numbers (at least on torque I think I have even topped stock x5m, but not sure how to properly compare AWD DD to RWD Dynojet)

P.S. Thanks to your volumetric flow calculations that you did - I'm going to swap x5m intake filters and go for Stage 2 - hopefully I'll gain some hp, especially on higher revs

Whichever Dinan uses. I do not know off-hand. That is where I got the numbers.

You cannot go wrong with the ///M unless you live in congested city in which you cannot appreciate handling and power.

Dinan uses a DynaPak hydraulic hub dyno. Extremely accurate under 1000HP due to zero tire slippage (bolted hub) and hydraulic controls.

The question is then... would Dinan's numbers be more accurate or the plots posted above?

The DynaPak numbers from Dinan are converted back to engine horsepower without the drivetrain loss and are extremely accurate (under 1000 hp).

The Dynojet AWD numbers are accurate with the drivetrain loss included.

Maybe I'll just do another run on Dynojet to finally compare and see pumped up numbers

I had my 50i coded to start in whichever mode was saved last and it was always ECO mode unless on highway or going on road trip. I am glad that BMW had the common sense to have eco mode programed as default for the X5M.

Yes, but it was answered nicely by many. There's no 100% definitive answer. Also, notice how OP disappeared and never commented lol

The 50i is a really great daily with the smoother transmission and less on edge feel. If you want to be relaxed on a daily basis then stick with the 50i.

If you want something that always puts a smile on your face but does require focus while driving then get the X5M. Can be exhausting when all you want to do is get from point A to point B but if you want to get from point A to point B extremely fast, then its your vehicle.

At the end of the day it is what makes one happy. In my case since it is my daily driver I went 50i as I have other M cars for fun.

I opted for the 50i because the x5m wasn't out yet. Do I regret not waiting? Sometimes. But if I'm not constantly comparing the two, the 50i is more than enough.

a downside of this vehicle or any M vehicle or similar ones is that every dbag on the road wants to race you or tries to... an altima coupe with some bogus ebay exhaust was trying to get me to race him today on my drive home. hazards and brake checking then revving the motor next to me. ignoring these morons at rush hour or on your commute will become a part time job.

Priority for me is quiet ride, comfortable, fun to drive - is the additional 20k for the X5M worth it - or is a loaded xDrive50i the better option!

Coming from a '14 v6 Range Rover Sport, will be daily driver.

I know this is subjective, but any suggestions or feedback would be much appreciated!
I've had both. I had an F15 for 3 years and have had an F85 for 16 months. They are very different. The turbo lag in the 50i is really pronounced and gets old. You hit the gas and it starts to go and the turbos kick in and just throws your neck back. That's fine when you are doing spirited driving by yourself, not so good when you have wife with you. The F85 is smooth through the entire power band. It's faster while being more comfortable.

The handling is COMPLETELY different. I had the dynamic handling in the 50i, but it's not even close to handling the way the M does. The M feels like an M sedan compared to the way the 50i handled.

The steering is adjustable in the M and I think feels so much better when it's firm. The 50i never gets firm steering.

I went though brakes every 25k miles on the 50i. I have 24k miles on the M and they said I had 65% of the brakes left. The braking on the 50i is long. Too long for how fast the car is. The M is incredible.

I think the problem is the the 50i has too much power for the other components. BMW has put a bunch of power in it, but didn't upgrade the steering, transmission, brakes to match.

The Merino leather and the front seats are special. Very luxurious. The 50i doesn't look much different then the 35i version.

I would never buy a V8 BMW without buying the M version. I can't see me ever parting with my M. It's worth the extra cost. If you don't want to spend money for the M, then I'd get the 35i. I think that whole package works better. Good luck!

I usually just laugh and give a flip of the hair. That really pissed them off. If conditions allow, I'll do a quick jump on it to show them who's boss, and then drop back down and let them go. They also get a laugh and a hair flip.
