Steering Wheel won't go up or down

Got our first issue with our 2016 X5 with 14,000 kms on it. The steering wheel won't adjust to any of the memory settings and nor can you adjust it manually to go up and down. The steering wheel will only go in or out.

Any thoughts before I take in to the dealership?

has your vehicle the one year mark? seems to be this is an anniversary present which arrives around the time of the one year mark.

Haha. I guess my F15 had several anniversaries in its first year. I swear, it could have driven itself to the dealer it knew the route so well.

My steering wouldn't go in and out this morning, only up and down. When I hit the switch all I would hear is the clicking.

Then decided to adjust it all the way up and then it would adjust in and out. Now it's back to normal, but has me concerned. My car just passed the one year mark.

Yes, she just turned a year!

I guess they've heard this before and they've made an appointment for us tomorrow. I'll be sure to get them to wash it as well.

Interesting, if my issue comes back I will take it to the dealer. I would hate to have replace the steering column or something when it's out of warranty.

My steer wheel is beginning to squeak when it lifts up. 8 months old with 10k km (6k miles) - maybe a few more months for me to visit.

I had that squeaking sound as well and it appeared to have stopped just a weeks ago and then this happened. When my wife called they knew of the issue and have us setup with a car for the day.

Good stuff!
Maybe your dealer is better than mine.
I decline the wash as it is not by hand, likely brushes.
When servicing, I leave 3 placecards "No Wash, please"

I always tell them no wash whenever i have service. I've seen their car wash and they use brushes.

My dealer only does hand wash on new deliveries. Mine is ready.
I p/up in 48hrs.

You would assume dealers would not use brushes. Ideally they should advise you first, rather than face the wrath of unhappy clients.

OK, funny story. The SA was the best...he says what's the problem? My wife says the steering wheel goes in and out but not up and down. Buddy says it sounds like an "electrical problem"! Now my wife is blonde and she said, "what an idiot". Anyway, she got a phone call saying they are replacing the steering column and they'll need it overnight.

The steering not moving up and down seems to be a popular issue.. I've had problems twice so far. First issue was fixed by replacing the steering column and second issue corrected itself after restart.

Mine has been making noise, my initial thought was a "birds nest" sound. Can't really describe it...loose wires???. Anyway, I'm approaching 50000 miles and do have a service appointment in 2 weeks. Anything else I need checked prior to going out of warranty?

Go for a drive and then have them look at everything that you think is wrong with it. Would least help if down the line there is really a problem, you can go and point out, "See when I pointed it out here," you may be able to get covered.

+1

Make sure they write it up on your service receipt. That way if there is a problem you can claim that they were unable to replicate.
Thinking about it, you might be able to make up common problems as insurance down the line.

Issue again at 18K miles... my 3rd time that the steering wheel does not move up or down but it telescopes in and out. Booked a trip to the dealer to have it resolved next week.

I was getting the same squeak when the wheel moves up after you park. Took it in last week and they just removed and reinstalled the covers. That stopped the noise for 24 hrs. Took it back in today and got a call saying they are replacing the steering column.

That has me concerned. Hopefully, the replacement of the steering column will be last.
