Trackhawk Real Quarter Mile Times

Stumbled onto this R&T article/video of real Trackhawk quarter mile times. Noticed it's about three months old, so sorry if it's a repost

Not bad for street tires. Also love that every car it went against broke haha. Gotta be embarrassing.

ATCO is a sea level fast track. Nice times though. Be interesting to read the shootouts.

If any of you know someone that has one in the Austin/San Antonio Texas area please tell them to meet me at San Antonio Raceway! I want to race one and don't believe the numbers that Jeep is advertising....

I'm working with one of the Admin's of the Facebook Texas Hellcat Chapter to set up a race between my F85 and a Trackhawk during the truck shoot out event on 24 February at San Antonio Raceway. Apparently there are two in the area. I will keep you all posted and post videos for sure.

I do not believe those numbers of trackhawk either. I know there is more to times besides HP like weight, Aero, and things like traction etc. However IF the X5M is around 80hp underrated that would put it at 640-650hp with nice 325s in the rear to grip and rip. I am new to this site and I haven't really found a lot of info on 1/4 mile times stock or even much on dynos from members but it appears from reviews the 1/4 mile is around 12.2 with 3.8ish 0-60. Trackhawk weight is around 5350 to the X5m 5250 around 100lb advantage for BMW; or a crude guesstimate of 10hp per 100lbs. Therefore the HP really isn't that big of a discrepancy as most at Jeep seem to feel they have. Should it be faster? I think so. The way the launch control works with all the engineering going into the way that power is transferred is pretty amazing. However 11.6 compared to 12.2? Either the Bimmer isn't that underrated on average or the Trackhawk IS having problems getting reproducible 11.6 real world times and it appears it is the latter.

A review actually showed the testers timing their runs (through the Jeep onboard) and it ranged from mid 12's to 11.9 at the best. 11.9 seems to be most likely and honestly that won't make much difference from stoplight to stoplight typical Hellcat/SRT style racing. On the track, I still favor the F85/86 to really outperform the Jeep.

Follow the link for my most recent trip to the track. Still trying to get my invisihitch removed to improve my time. Fastest was 11.9.

Good passes. Are you using launch control in M mode ? M mode will keep the engine cooler and maxing out the trans shift and suspension helps ET in M mode. The TrackHawk should leave harder, but you should catch up and pass it when the turbos spool up.

I haven't been using launch control. I tested it out a few times in an empty parking lot but I don't feel comfortable using the paddle shifters during a drag race. Is it possible to use launch control while the transmission is in auto? Also, do you know if there is an optimal suspension setting? I've been using sport plus but I've read in a few posts it is better on launch to use comfort.

Thanks for the tip.

Unless you are GREAT at guessing the rpm swing, paddle shifting is not the best at the track for the 1/4 mile. The best combo I have found is to set an M button with everything at max (sport plus keeps the front down better to keep the front tires from spinning) plus the trans shifting at max level. I use M1. Keep M1 activated while you are moving through the staging lanes to keep the engine cooler. When you are going around the water box make sure M1 is still active and stage. Then hold the foot brake down hard, then smash the throttle down to the floor. It will activate Launch Control even though the flags don't light up and you are not in manual/paddle mode. It will hold around 2800 rpm. On the 3rd amber, let the foot brake off FAST and hold on.....you'll launch with 3ish psi and ramp up quickly. HAVE FUN !

Thanks! I think what was throwing me off is that the flag (indicating launch control engaged) wasn't popping up while I had it in auto. I will test it out within the next few days.

Just to be clear, launch mode will not operate if you have it in auto. You put it in manual with everything on full tilt like Onfire said, if you do it correctly and activate launch mode, it will shift for you, even though it is in manual mode. If not, you'll see what hitting the rev limit is like.

Agreed! But, this is 'Merica so I'm sure this will be a good seller.

Reminds me of when I moved to Houston from Newport Beach a few years back. People were actually taking pictures of my M5 and trucks would try to race me all the time. Once I was on Interstate 10 in my GT3 and a group of about 5 trucks were all over me.

'Merica!

Yeahhh... I feel ya. I'm living in San Antonio right now (originally from So Cal). I get trucks trying to flex on our X5M daily. They really think their lifted trucks are High Performance Vehicles.

I have accidentally shift to Manual coming off the line. Hitting the Rev Limit wasn't fun.

I want to make sure that I'm clear...... When I launch using "Launch Control" it will automatically shift and there is no need to use the paddle shifters?

Thanks!

Trust me. You do not need to have the Flags on for LC to work. I logged the DME to make sure the rpm and boost was the same with the Flags on and the Flags off. Many 1/4 mile passes with Vbox. I’ve never tried to make Manual Mode shift for me so I can not help you there. I did not want to chance hitting the limiter.

If you want to see the Flags, manual mode, brake down, wot but I’ve never tried to make it auto shift....might not shift.

For an auto shift, leave it in auto mode, foot brake down hard, wot and it will go to 2800rpm 3psi and hold on when you let off the foot brake.

Thanks! My next trip to the track will be 2 February for Roll Racing. On 24 Feb I will competing in the "Truck Shoot Out" and that will be my first opportunity to use Launch Control.

I will post videos of both track nights.

Two things. First I do not believe there is anything wrong with 'hitting the rev limiter' as its programmed not to hit it. Unless I am understanding this incorrectly, you can hit that often and nothing will happen. These are not manual trans cars.

Secondly, that was a Trackhawk? 12.3? Wow. Im sooo glad I went this route. At 70k an SRT all NA 6.4l V8 is an OK value prop but 100k for a faster boosted version...no reason NOT to look hard at the X5m. BMW is really a way better value. Wow.

Technically you are correct about the limiter. However, it's not good practice to hit it often. I've manually set up different ECM strategies to limit rpm....doesn't hurt to have as a fail safe...but engines do not like having their balance upset with random dropped cylinders with ing cut or fuel cut...ok to have it....ok to hit it "occasionally "....but over time it will take a toll on plugs, coils, rotating assemblies, etc.
