I think you're right. I'm just so upset...I loved this car. Thankful for the inclusive BMW warranty. They told me not to worry and to enjoy the free rental for the next 2-3 weeks. The 2016 X5 and 2017 230 have been flawless thus far.

With a new engine do I get an 80,000 KM warranty on that one...how does that work now?

Oh man, I am just so upset right now. I'm going to see if I can get out of this car and move him into a M240.

And these extended BMW warranties mentioned here, as they the same or similar to BMW's CPO warranty? I had 3 repairs needed during my CPO timeframe, and 2 were denied/not covered, so I have little faith in that warranty being of much help. Though worth mentioning, the 1 item it did cover was the big ticket item - value guide seals ($9K repair at BMW dealer). Point being, a lot of people on these forums (not you P1et!) seem to think the BMW CPO warranty is just as comprehensive as the original 4 year/50K, and it certainly is not.

FWIW I purchased a CNA exclusionary warranty, 3 years/24K miles, for $2550.
Hey Jiggz, that seems like a pretty good price for the CNA warranty. Can you share details of what's excluded? Where/how did you go about getting the warranty? Did you get it through a dealership?

TIA

It certainly is a good point to reiterate jiggz ! The BMW Gold warranty is the same as the CPO warranty as far as coverage is concerned. But yes, it's certainly not the same level of coverage as the factory warranty.

When I bought my Infiniti in 2012, I got the Infiniti Elite warranty that was 84 months / 120,000 miles with a $100 deductible for $2499.00. I'm currently waiting on a quote from my BMW dealership but I know it will be no where near as good so my plan is to try and use the Infiniti ones as leverage.

"Surely, BMW must consider their vehicles significantly better than Infiniti so with that being the case the BMW should potentially require less on-going work, hence should be at a competitive price point".

That won't work, unfortunately. Dealers have limited margin on these products and frankly, no dealers outside of my own have gotten back to me with warranty quotes. My SA warned me that other dealers will mark the price up, only to make it seem like they are extending a discount.

I am sorry to hear that.

Extended Warranty is nice because mechanical breakdown like the engine blowing up is covered.

I inquired about the trade-in and it was $9,000 difference if I sell it privately versus trade-in.

We'll see how things go but everyone is telling me that I should hold on to it and get the extended warranty when it's time. That engine will only have 30,000 km on it. I'd like to get a handle on what the extended warranty costs are for the M235.

When they quoted me the extended warranty cost, they ask what model as every model is different in coverage. It also showed the purchase price I paid for the vehicle so that may be a factor as well, unless they just use that for the loyalty bonus.

Make sure you DO ask for that loyalty bonus when it's time.

Update: BMW approved the engine replacement on the 2016 M235. This reinforces why I love this brand and also points out the need for warranty.

OMG,

My dealer just responded with quotes .... they are nuts (see below). Names have been removed to protect the insane.

Sorry for the delayed response. I received a couple hundred request in the last two weeks of December and still catching up.

You can extend your CPO Warranty to 7 year / 100k miles for $5395.00

There are also Platinum and Gold Plus options available: Details here. http://www.fidelitywarrantyservices....cle-protection

Platinum (Similar to manufacture Coverage): $250 Deductible
1 year / 12k miles = 7424.00
2 year / 24k miles = 10962.00
3 year / 36k miles = 16536.00

Gold Plus (Similar to CPO Coverage): $250 Deductible
1 year / 12k miles = 5649.00
2 year / 24k miles = 8013.00
3 year / 36k miles = 12049.00

So you're actually getting a good deal on the 84 month/100K for $5,395. My dealer quoted me Gold 84M/100K miles $5,719.

I cannot speak to the other coverages, since those are all third party.

If you look at the Gold & Platinum quotes vs yours quotes it's not even close. The $5,395 is to extend the CPO, not a a Gold or Platinum.
