Running board

I just wonder if anybody feel that the BMW running board is useful. In my opionion, the running board is too narrow to step on to get on/get off the vehicle. Do you have any useful tips? I am thinking to get the Rommick running board which has 6 inches step area is much more practical to use.

For healthy adult it's not necessary, but for kids or elderly it's somewhat useful. A wider board would probably be better. I mostly use it to access roof cargo box and clean/dry sunroof

I have had them on 3 past X5s and now on my current 2017, and for me they are useful to just get my pants dirty!!

They are not wide enough to really use, even my 11 year old son does not use them. I do like they way they look, but find them 100% useless. Compared to the side running boards I had on my past Range Rovers and G-Class which are all robust and wide and really useful...I do not like, nor recommend the BMW ones.

the one thing i like about the oem running boards is that they prevent the body paint from getting pitted from road debris getting kicked up. as for stepping on them? they are not that useful. too high and too narrow. for kids they probably are ok.

as for the romik boards, they sit lower and are wider. i can see them being more useful.
you do lose ground clearance though.

I keep a folding small step stool in my cargo area anyway for any "wealthy" old relatives or to reach my roof while waxing or drying water with a microfiber.

I'm not a fan of running boards anyway especially my being in the northeast just another thing to catch snow and salt.

I think running boards on a trucky type vehicles like a 4 x 4 are a great idea, but the X5 is really not that high off the ground IMHO.

I do think those electric aftermarket retracting ones are cool from a video I saw being installed on youtube.

Hi all, im in the process of buying an X6 2015 M sport and am considering putting some running boards on there. Does anyone have any pics please?

Are they easy to fit?

Where is best to buy?

Many thanks in advance.

I don’t think they’re compatible with the M Sport cars.

This is prob the best idea if you don’t need them frequently.

M-sport with running boards:

You can’t order it from the factory this way. You have to buy the OEM parts and install them yourself (or have someone else install them).

ive been in contact with the seller on ebay for these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/To-Fit-20...19.m1438.l2649

They have told me that you need to remove the side skirt and replace it with the running board.

Has anyone done this?
Was it easy?
Anyone of any pics?

Here is an old post with instructions:

I think you might be able to get more pictures from the OP if you message him.

My 6 year old uses them every time she gets in or out of the car. My wife isn't that tall but she never uses them. I also never use them except to dirty the back of my pants.

Sounds like it's not worth putting them on then!

Has anyone got any pics of retro fit running boards on an X6 M Sport?

i bought a set of these off ebay in the usa and tried installing on my last x5 (2015). they looked close to stock. the fitment was not that great with the biggest issue being the mounting hole spacing was off, so not all the mounting fasteners could line up. it was as if the running board was molded a little short. i ended up returning them.

I installed some Romiks on my moms X5. The stock ones were getting down right dangerous. She's in her 70s and we can't afford a fall. The Romiks are so much safer for us. I made a video about how to remove the oem running boards if anyone is interested at https://youtu.be/ZjdItsfK__U
