Regarding ACS is not cheap, but its about one grand less than other aftermarket options such as Meisterschaft.

Have a listen, it sounds great as if you have installed Catless dp and muffler together...

Dinan will trigger CEL???
Am not talking about Tunes. All am saying is Installing a DOWN PIPE will trigger CEL!!

Be careful with custom setups. Sometimes it's not loud enough, or too loud, or too much drone.
(Flowmasters are known to drone)

Here is my old car with magnaflow mufflers. Barely more "Vroom Vroom" but droned at certain PRM

Thats why I recommend an exhaust kit from a reputable company. Yes, it will cost more but they did their research and at the end you get what you paid for.

Heck even my MPE Oem tips came a little crocked. Cant imagine a custom exhaust would be perfect!!

I agree with you 100% and that is the route I usually choose. Every performance vehicle I have owned I have done just that. But this is an X5 35i we are talking about. Not exactly a serious performance vehicle. I am just an enthusiast and hate the idea of having a stock vehicle. It's a serious problem! Haha

My issue is an ACS or something comparable will cost me close to $4000 after shipping, taxes and exchange. A well done custom can be had for in and around $1000 so it's a thought worth looking into. Spending $4000 for no performance gain, a change in sound and different tips might be a bit too much to justify. Especially if some people have had success achieving similar results with custom set ups. Don't get me wrong, I understand that the quality of those brand name exhausts is top notch and it would be my ideal choice. If I was able to buy it at around $2000 like my neighbors to the south I probably would.

Options

There are tons of options out there. Visited my mechanic again and he told me he needed to lift vehicle to see what room there is for a more educated estimate.
I will then go over w/him every single detail, including mufflers, tips and quality of piping in case of custom one.
MPE should cost around $1500 w/installation cost -as is that is.
ACS and Hamman -I believe best sound around- are out of reach unless I run into a used one.
Was also looking at E70. There are some options where you get a solid muffler with some pipping, but also customize the tips. Those should fit ok.
I like going out of the box to customize...it's intriguing, but carries some "risk", which is part of choices you make.

Yes, if you can manage to build something with quality( Looks and sounds good, No drone, leaks ect.) for around $1000, then by all means go for it. This is no performance vehicle but its no civic either, personally I wouldn't start cutting and welding even if I have Jeep grand Cherokee.

ACS would go for under $3000 Canadian + Shipping/taxes.

For $1000, You can definitely build a system that looks good and sounds good.

All you really need is either one muffler with an inlet and two outlets or two individual mufflers, mandrel bends, and a shop with a decent welder.

In, terms of sound, it really a gamble. The mangaflow exhaust clip I posted earlier was 1 of 5 experiments I tried on my 535i. It wasn't worth it in the end. If there is a sound you like, just pay for it now.

You're right, not very impressive. What is impressive is the magazine you used to cover your plate!

It's an advertisement postcard. HA HA

MPE with custom tips sounds like the best idea to me.

Sorry for not keeping you guys updated, Active has been booked solid for the past month or so, they are trying to squeeze me in beginning of march. However they put me in contact with an X5 that they tuned, he has a custom muffler delete, you can check out some of his videos if you request him on instagram. @igor_dubo
