Tire Replacment

My P-Zero's made it about 9,000 miles. That's a bit disappointing but I was pretty hard on them. Do you guys take your M's to the dealer for tires? Is there anything special about tire replacement? On my other vehicles I take them to an oil change place close to my house and have never had an issue. I can get replacements on tirerack for around $1800 and they will mount and balance them for $150. I plan to get a labor only quote and a tire and labor quote from my dealer but I expect it will be $2500ish. Just wanted to get some opinions.

I use a tire store unless the dealer price matches. I do buy and install at the same place Incase there is a problem with the tire. That actually happened one time with Michelin.

I usually either go to American tire or order from tirerack unless dealer has good deal.

There is nothing special about tire replacement. If you can get cheaper prices than those at the dealer, save your money!

Many manufacturers have developed a model specific tire; this will be labelled as such on the tire, and reputable online sellers such as Tire Rack will often list the OEM tire alongside a 'generic' tire. I haven't checked if the PZeros on the X5M are model specific, but a quick look at the sidewall or on the Tire Rack website will tell you. In my experience, there isn't a huge difference between the OEM and 'generic' tires, but hey, maybe there is for some cars that I haven't driven.

As for being disappointed with 9,000 miles, that's about par for the course in my experience. Just a fact of life with a heavy vehicle and high performance tires.

I got about 10K on my Pzeros. Went with Continental (ExtremeContact Sport) I think. They are great so far. Slightly less on the width...10mm less front and rear so 315 rear. Triple checked prior to purchase for fit. Significantly less $ and will likely last a lot longer too.

I always go to my BMW dealer to replace my tires. It's convenient for me. They just replaced my Summer OEM Michelin Pilot Super Sports with the same. (The OEM tires have a star on them.) They were a bit more than Tire Rack, but I trust my dealer. One time with my E70 X5, they scratched the wheel when mounting the new tire. They bought me a brand new wheel, no questions ask.

Both of my Columbus OH dealers right now are offering Tires for $5 over their cost. Only eligible for our F85 was MPSS and PZero.

I'm going to let my dealer install for $55 per tire. Seems like a safe way to go and it was less than I expected.

I just bought tire replacement package that was around 2500-3000US for 3 years. Supposedly you can replace them for any reason. My tires and rims are covered so I want to replace them this spring. Hope it is very easy. Have the same deal on my 16 SRT and the rims are a tad scuffed so I need to replace those along with tires. If it is as advertised it seems like a no brainer to buy the package.

I bring my dealership the tires and the wheels. They do the rest. It's the only place in town I trust to do it right.

Bring it to the dealership. They have the proper equipment to install your new tires without inflicting scuffs or mounting scrapes from some of the crap machines some automotive shops use.

9,000 miles sounds great to me , whatever this was before was obviously off topic . All I was trying to say is that I have a x5M that has worn the tires in half the amount
