Our X5 has a mate

was going to post this in the "daily picture" thread, but figured it deserved it's own spot.

New (to me) CPO 2014 535i Xdrive, black sapphire metallic on dakota black, luxury line; joins our 2016 X5, space gray metallic on dakota MSport.

Yes, before anyone says, I'm planning to put the black kidneys on the X5, as well as the IND gloss black roundels (front and back) and the gloss black X5. Also planning to take off the "XDrive 35i" on the X5.

No big mods for the 535; I'll probably take off the "XDrive" and 535i, but for now that's it. I might do the all black roundels and center caps on the wheels, but we'll see.

the X5 is the wife's daily driver and the 535 replaces my 2007 Honda CRV that made it (RIP) to 200K miles!

Now my OCD kicks in to hyperdrive...

I must now lurk on 2 forums, X5 AND 5 series

These have become so affordable now, essentially a no brainer! Great choice.

thanks - I had it narrowed down to the 535 vs. MB E350 4matic. I "really" tried to give the MB the benefit of the doubt, but this one came along. Also, common controls, common layout, and most importantly....a real gear shifter on the console. I just can't bring myself to try to learn having the gear selector on the steering wheel column - I'm afraid the first time it rains I'll shift the car into neutral.

Can't teach an old dog new tricks

@zinengineer looks good.
You don't need to lurk in both forum, just ask me.
I had both cars. So I know a lot on them.

Why does the X5 look sportier and beefier than the 535i...
Congrats on the pair.

I think it's those massive tires on the rear....they're the biggest **** tires I've seen. BTW - switched the X5 to DWS06's and plan to do the same on the 535.

you're comparing a 5-series that doesn't have a M-sport body kit with an X5 that does.

this is what a M sport looks like: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=403526

BMWs of the same generation all follow similar design cues. So a X-line or luxury-line X5 should look similar to a standard F10, and M Sports should all have the same designs namely:
1. wider front intakes (also, notice the M Sport intakes are flipped upside down for the actual M cars)
2. flared side skirts
3. straight-down taper of the rear bumper

Yes, I know this.... I was just making a point on how the Msport even on a soccer mom vehicle can look awesome compared to your standard 5 series.

I was hoping to find a F10 M Sport CPO, but they seem to be rarer than a purple unicorn.....at least in the price range I was willing to spend.

We're empty nesters, so I'm not sure my wife would characterize her drive as "soccer mom".....we had the late '80's Volvo 740 GL wagon for that service!!! But yes, the X5 M Sport does look very cool.....

2014 535i M Sports with less than 40K on the ticker from a BMW dealership are in the high 20s now. No brainer!

Great choices! Very Nice!! Same great engine in both also. You are going to love the folding side mirrors.

Get the Carly for BMW Gen II Adapter plus the Android/iOS app and have great fun coding both cars.

Same engine, same controls, etc - most of my motivation for sticking with BMW. I've been looking into coding, I'm really not ready for the full on laptop/cable routine. I've looked at both the Carly and the downloadable/USB route offered by Bimmertech. Bimmertech seems to be the most straightforward, but I'll still need a laptop with windows for a remote session to do the folding mirrors upon locking (a feature I'd really like to have).

I've got Apple products and not thrilled about the option of having to run windows environment in an Apple MacBook....even my Apple genius son suggests that's a path he'd really rather me not go down

It is rather straightforward. Though, this is coming from someone who has not touched an apple product in 20 years:
