Alarm goes off after locking

Before taking to the dealer thought i’d get some e-pinions from the board on this. My x5 has a tendency for the alarm to go off after locking the vehicle. I’ve had it happen on both FOBs and using the comfort lock button on the door. Any idea why? At 1st i thought it might be an issue with the FOB but additional testing seems to rule that out. Maybe something weird electrically?

Also is there anyway to turn off the alarm in the interim? I basically never use the panic button (though my key has one which seems not entirely consistent with keys i’ve seen on the board).

Yes. I had the same issue with mine. I believe there is a way to prevent via coding but i just took the easy route and removed the Allstate device.

My Allstate agent keeps reminding me of the discount if I use the Allstate dongle. I'm hesitated.

I'm 99.9% certain this is the reason your car alarm is going off.

My wife and I used it a few years back for 6 months. In order to get to their "safe driving" range (can't remember the exact name, just remember it was classified as green, yellow and red), you literally have to drive like a grandma, very mild acceleration, very light brake, slow speed turns, no speeding, etc. You can't have more than one of those scenarios in a week or you will be in their "red" zone, which you won't get any rate reduction. Therefore our rates didn't go down as expected but it went up for "no reason". Our agent claimed it's not related to the safe driving program but he couldn't explain why.

I would not participate such things if I get to choose all over again. I get more discount by switching to different insurance company.

The issue for me with devices like Allstate's Drivewise is that the device is recording the time of day, vehicle speed, how hard the brakes are being applied along with some other vehicle data. All of the data that this device is constantly recording is discoverable by third parties and can be used in an accident investigation and⁄or litigation.

Exactly. Hard to get the discount, and When someone tries to claim the $$$ compensation, the insurer will definitely look at the data they collect and come back to go against the insuree.

Sorry to hijack the thread to the different topic.

No worries on the hijack. I’m not that worried about that data collection angle but it’s a fair consideration.

It does seem that unplugging it fixed the alarm part so i’m done either way

I had the same issue with the Liberty Mutual dongle. I got really good at unplugging it when I parked at work and plugging it in (w/o looking!) before I left work. If I was doing shopping with frequent stops/starts I just left it out until I got home. Discount was minimal even though my commute is stop and go and I was in electric both ways 90% of the time.

My car does the same thing but I do not have anything plugged into it. I just got the car a couple months ago and I can’t figure out why it does that

Are all you windows and sunroof closed? If not, it could be the IMS (interior motion sensor) being set-off by wind, pedestirans walking past your vehicle, or flying insects inside the vehicle.

Check the error codes. It might be the tilt sensor failing.

+1

The were a couple of codes left (something about roof console...I think) after a tune flash a couple of weeks ago, and the alarm went off as soon as I locked the car. I noticed the red light on the bottom of the rear-view mirror was flashing rapidly, if that makes sense. Had to plug back in and clear the codes. All good now.

I am not sure what it is, either that or the tilt alarm sensor. Gotta take it to the dealership when I find time. Or does anyone know of a shop in Tampa FL that can work on it?
